Du Plessis: " we knew the toss was going to play a roll"

...

And sonething about the pitch assisting their spinners

????

Im not so sure about both these points.

That last stand showed that the pitch was good for batting on day 5.

Their spinners did not get a lot of turn, even on day 5 pithch.

Im guessing the batsmen were not mentally up for anything else but batting first.

Secondly, with so many rookies in the squad, not having a batting coach caused disaster. Markram has technical issues against spin, Hamza off his hips, vd Dussen vs spin.

Isn't Jacques Kallis the batting coach? Can't get much better than him.. Him and Boucher haven't been with the team that long though, so no ways they could've fixed all of the technical issues yet.

But I'm starting to wonder, perhaps we just don't have world class cricketers anymore? A result from the poor quality of domestic levels?

Well, poor domestic level and local players going for greener pastures (Can't blame them tbh):

Marchant de Lange

Duanne Olivier

Rillee Rossouw

Kyle Abbott

Simon Harmer

to name but a few

Then there's a certain AB de Villiers who's talking about making a comeback for the T20 world cup... Not sure how I feel about this one..

He must F off now.... seriously

You're either in or you're out

A certain Katy Perry song comes to mind wrt AB and his international availability.

What's sadder is that both Bouch and Faf seem to want him to come back in the team. Imho I think this sends a really poor message to that guys who have been working hard to get a spot in the team. AB will at best be a short term cure at best and potentially a divisive figure within the team at worst.

what's Dale Steyn doing this week?

think he's done his stint in BBL, how about a once off return to test cricket for the final match?

That would be nice but I doubt that he'll do an AB and unretire for one match.

Hey this is AB360, he can do what he wants!

At least he's learning that it's better to mess up the team 6 months before the tournament rather than in the middle of it now.

Imagine his career stats if AB kept on playing international cricket. He'd certainly be one of the greats of all time. Instead, he thought he could pick and choose when to play for SA, and chase dollars around the world the rest of the time. He has also hinted that SA politics had a say in his retirement

But ja, he must p*ss off now. Even if he is still one of the best, someone will have to make way so he can steal the spotlight again, and that's not right!

He is a batting consultant. They asked Boucher in the post match interview why Kallis was not at the match in PE, to which he answered that they can only use him for a limited nr of hours.

I think he would be a great batting coach. But if he is not available full time, get an additional full time batting assistant, who can work with the rest while Kallis works with the biggest problems.

Oh! I thought Kallis was permanent. Hmm, they definitely need to change this set-up!
