Correct.

A replica.

Bought it for the strap. it was a quarter the price of the strap i need for an old watch,

Clever hey.

If that's your bag, sure.

The engineering of a great watch bracelet just feels so good on your wrist, bad ones, not so great.

As a rule, i am not a lover of replicas - even though there are some really good ones out there with swiss movements.

But i also have some old watches and sometimes you gotta get creative when making them wearable again.

Case in point is a 1974 (i think) Omega f300 i inherited. no strap available from omega or online, but with a bit of fancy footwork with a cheap replica, i can now wear it again.

Whilst i dont really like replica's, some of the watch prices at the moment are crazy, so i do understand why some folks would buy them.

Each to their own i suppose.

I have a replica Speedmaster with an automatic movement that a mate bought for me in the East. On my arm it was able to fool a few people. I knew it was fake but at the time I didn't have the (not sure if I can say balls...) guts to wear the real deal in public for fear of losing it. (It wasn't insured) I decided to send the real one away for a service and ended up with a refurb (See above) VERY stoked with the result!!! I now wear it on weekends and special occasions. No good to anybody in the safe...

I had a few replicas, but ditched them all as I felt cheap wearing them. I agree with you about the spares angle. My Speedmaster is a 1970 model and I am just lucky that they still manufacture them.

For me it's about how a watch feels and that's why i prefer a metal strap over a leather strap.I see some of the top watch companies are now doing hollow links and no longer solid links.

They are just going to get more expensive.Rolex are busy pricing themselves out of the reach of the average person.

They already there. I'm the average Joe, and there is no way I can afford a Rolex. It's the one watch I really want.

I cant even do the " One day when I'm big .. " I'm already big.

Maybe my kids will buy me one, oneday, when they sit back one day and appreciate the sacrifices that were made for them .. :)

and on top of this my car gave me the warning light this morning to say my brakes are worn..... that's a few thousand as well.... what next..... petrol going up, car expenses....... i'm just greatful at the moment I have a job though. They've started retrenching people in our area at work so I'm just blessed to still be here.

Pocket watches seem to be making a come back and are very popular in Europe. My dad has a few and i want to see what they are and if they are worth getting re-furbished.

I know this thread has been quiet for a while but does anyone know where I can purchase Tissot watches in SA for reasonable prices? Just had a quote from a biggish jewellery shop and it's a bit pricy.

Try buying if you tavel overseas, especially Heathrow. I bought my T-Touch for half the ZA price on Turkey duty free, and my Le Locle at about 60% of ZA price on Heathrow.

Just heard that my Festina Chronobike has died.... I have been quoted around 2k for a new movement. Not worth it, it seems....

I have an old Breitling stopwatch lying around, but it is a bit broken, anybody know where I can get it serviced around Pretoria. It is the old windup type...
