Bateleur1 Posted March 5, 2012 Share Based on the weather I experienced recently things might be looking good. But then again I think the weather in general (not just Cape Town) is a lotto ticket at the moment. Anything can happen.

eddy Posted March 5, 2012 Share For an upcountry rider who has difficulty in remembering that Table mountain faces North, how do different directions affect the ride? If it is a SE (which is predicted) when is it into you and when a tailwind, also what happens on the Atlantic side if you have a SE. Are you protected and if so, when does it hit you ? And which direction is the best and which is the worst of the lot ? Ths
Red Zone Posted March 5, 2012 Share Eddy, the southeaster is the worst, generally it is a fairly strong wind, and will normally get stronger throughout the day and as you get closer to the Point. The southeaster gusts around the mountain on the atlantic side and you get head, tail and crosswinds but in general the southeaster will be a tailwind. Northwester brings rain and can be pretty bad, but it looks like there is little chance of a northwester - this is pretty easy to predict as there are no cold fronts on the way. The southeaster can kill you between Ocean View and the four way stop in Sunvalley, you expect the wind to behind you all the way to the end from the point and you need to to a nasty stretch right back into it here. LOOK695 Posted March 5, 2012 Share All I want to know is should I bring my deepsections down to capetown?Do not want to be blown into the see around campsbay.Take your deepsections and take a normal front wheel with, so if it is windy, use your normal wheel. That is what I normally do. The back should be ok even when it is windy Tiny K

ccc2 Posted March 5, 2012 Share if the South Easter blows it will a head wind from the start till the corner of Smitswinkel climb. from there it will be a tailwind till past Ocean view hill , a head wind up kommetjie road till the traffic lights in sun Valley/Noordhoek. it will be windless up the climb of chappies but a head wind on the way down, so much so , that you will have to pedal. the same goes for Suikerbossie. the most dangerous will be after Suikerbossiie where the wind will be pushing you from behind but around some of the corners it will be against you.
