I did marriage once and learnt that married and pomp together are actually an oxymoron.

Ah, but then you married the wrong one. :whistling: (probably why she's now the ex). Married for ten years now, and still going strong.

Hey dracs

Where?

Usually The Spruit. I live close to Fratelli's so we take an amble over to Delta Park or up to Emmerentia depending on the lesson.

What?

MTB skillzzors for novices. Sometime before the first lesson I need 30 minutes to check your set up and bike worthiness. Some peeps need to seriously upgrade before first lesson. Sometimes all's fine or it's just a new stem.

When? How often?

My time is quite flexible. I'm currently running one on Tuesday mornings which should be ending in a week or two. But the four ladies are really enjoying their progress so may extend it. So whenever suits all parties - early morning during the week or a Saturday afternoon. I like to have at least 3 peeps starting at the same time though. Max of 5.

How much?

R800 for four lessons.

Ja well, I do something that I really like between all the abseiling down buildings and painting artworks. :D

Last time I was showing you how at Tokai I lost you... Took you half an hour to get down.

Funnily enough, all the respondents through this thread are male and I had the first session this morning.

Edit: not sure when I will be in CT again but will let you know and gtg. Btw, how is the Reverb?

Quit a thread

A few observations. I started out on mountain biking in 1994 then switched to road about 6 years back now back to MTB. Well both really

Mountain biking has really changed in the last 6 years. Loads of noobs. Most of them are not roadies converting. There were never that many roadies to start with. Trails have become much more aggressive. Fewer people seem to understand trail etiquette. Mountain bikers are now hugely more equipment obsessed, even worse than roadies. Massive increase in numbers.

My point is while it starts things off badly to call people dumbasses the OP has some valid points. He just didn't express it well. Which brings me to another thing. The aggression levels on trails. Good grief guys. It used to be that road was worse for this. Now I head out on the road with my roadie mates for a fun social ride. Used to be the other way round. At least on the road we mostly understand the unwritten rules

My advice would be relax guys. Don't stuff up a great sport. Oh and go do a skills clinic if you are kind of average to bad like me. I did one with Tread and it made a huge difference. And stay off the line if you are walking or fiddling with one of the countless things that require fiddling with on a mountain bike

 Big up to the newbie's that are buying bikes and getting started. Hope this thread does not put you off. We all started somewhere.

@HappyMartin you have a good point. The aggression on the trails is becoming quite shocking. Been a while since I did a main stream race and it is crazy how the A batch guys start. Shoving pushing for that one position in the first 5km of a 70km race. 2 guys started throwing handbags at each other at one river crossing because one guy walking in front of the other. What happened to people racing but also asking people if they are ok when they have technicals etc. Unless your going to be in the top 10 then there is no need to be this aggressive. Seems we are starting to treat MTB like the way people drive on the roads. Must get that one position ahead at all costs.........

Is your complaint that they are slow or that they have poor etiquet?

I am finding that fewer and fewer riders are calling this days... You are climbing behind someone and without warning they stop dead.... crash... fall....

its not only newbies, i saw some straight out dirt roadies, flying around the course. got to a twig and they topped in their bunch. and each one carried their bikes across and then got going again. friend and i cycled straight over it without the slightest hindrance. we ride over roots bigger than that on a normal ride. maybe too scared to scratch that frame
