Hi V12man, thanks for the info.  Getting anything other than Woollies beans is a difficult task, so the freshness is not always as it should be.  But I am looking at upgrading my set-up to improve the taste.

will something like this make a difference to get a decent shot

instead of using the mokka or the aeropress, if I combine it with a grinder like the nerd proposed earlier, or the severin grinder I looked at earlier?  the link you give seems to drag and I couldn't see any pricing options with the grinders.

Thx.

You would get more Crema, but quality of coffee I'm not so sure.

I would stick to the mokkapot and aeropress for taste reasons..

Crema is not the be all and end all, it looks great in the cup!

Key to good crema as V12 said is fresh beans, the more fresh the better.

Order beans online if getting them close to home is an issue. I know a few places will deliver great coffee!

thx again for the advice, the hub always supports!!!

I just want a decent cup.  The missus only drinks 1 cup a day, in the morning, and I want to make it as decent as possible.  She quite likes a cappuccino type, so maybe as you say stick to moka & aeropress, get a decent grinder and look for fresh beans.  Then maybe just add a milk frother something, to get that top layer decent.

I would suggest just giving them a call for pricing - ask for Ben - you can look at the small grinders at www.isomac.it - click the union jack flag for english

They are pretty cool little bits of stainless steel (I hate plastic)

Please don't bother with one of the little breville machines - even with a great grinder, it is REALLY REALLY hard to be consistent and progress with one of these machines - there are usually lots for sale on junkmail and the like.... for a reason....

You would be better off with something like this - built in grinder - http://www.isomac.it/model.asp?id=10 - but still, it is more expensive - although you are unlikely to wear it out in 20 years

I have seen a few in the classifieds over the last few years - worth setting up an alert and being patient till you find something you like at an affordable number

Dipslick has 2.... :)

Thanks to both me and you hahaha

That being said, keep your eyes pealed on gumtree and olx for deals on "chromebox" machines like the isomac... can be had for cheap and spares are easily available!

I've found that its quite handy for the nerd to keep a lookout for me, got my last three machines that way........

Cool! How long does it take to grind enough coffee for say, one cup?

Sorry, only saw the question now.  Depending on the ground of your coffee it can take anything from 30 seconds to super duper fine 5 minutes.  So it gives you enough time to grind your coffee whilst you are boiling the water for the coffee.

Fresh ground is the best after all :)
