funjunkie Posted April 30, 2012 Share Just out of interest, what has your bike cost you thus far in terms of Rands per km. Its one thing buying an expensive bike, but you are only going to get value for your money if you use it. I will start off: I bought my current bike second hand for R7000 and have ridden 2000 km on it. That makes the cost thus far R3.50/km. I have not included services and race fees etc just to try to keep things simple. CBS

Guest Omega Man Posted April 30, 2012 Share My DH bike has cost me about 60k all in if I add all the upgrades up. I'm too scared to actually add it all up. And half the time I'm pushing it so pretty k@k return on investment if you look at in terms of km's covered. But if you count the number of stupid grins. Well that's a whoole other story. Stretch Posted April 30, 2012 Share bike 4 yrs old now - total spend is about 20k over that period including spares etc - total distance ranges from 3000 - 5000 per year - so taking the lowest - thats 12000km = R1.60/km next years build is going to mess that up! DR ◣◢ Posted April 30, 2012 Share Spent R8000 on an "old model" which was marked down from R16000 to clear stock. Spent about R1500 in upgrading tyres and the bar and stem. Done about 1500km on it. So im in for R6.33 per km. Gets cheaper every day

Pants Boy Posted April 30, 2012 Share Spent R700 on a Makro Special, and did 2500 km's on it - 28c a kilo. Saved enough fuel money in the meantime to get a new Axis A60, and have done about 200km's on it - R20 a kilo so far!

SwissVan Posted April 30, 2012 Share Where did you get that formula? So if you buy a set of zipp 808's ...... More like...Why would someone want to work out cost per km, that would just be depressing and incriminating. In other words i have no idea and no intention of trying to figure it out, especialy if you include all costs that are dedicated to cycling.... if my cycling hobby was a business... lol i'd be flatbroke on my arse.
