Paid handsomely (north of one million pounds a year some claim) to do a job for a man who (let's be honest) has earned Sky's leadership fair and square, Froome is doing just that. He's still young and his time will come, Froome knows that full well. Whether or not he will ever get a good a chance as this to win a Tour de France is another matter.

that's about 12 million reasons(depending on exchange rate) not to disobey team orders.

Riis now sees the balance of power changing on Team Sky, and in his opinion, the team has put its money on the wrong horse. Christopher Froome, now second, is stronger than his captain and race leader Bradley Wiggins, he said.

“It will be interesting in the final week, because as before, I would say that Froome is top favourite,” Riis told sporten.dk. “They made a mistake during the Vuelta last year..”

And it is not yet too late for Sky to alter things, he told ekstrabladet.dk. “I think they are about to make the role change – perhaps.”

This was earlier today on Twitter from @Vaughters

"Froome had every opportunity to go be leader of many a team after Vuelta. He turned it down. It was his choice to to stay with Brad at Sky."

After reading a nice debate Re; stage lengths on velonews, it occurred to me that Froome would be one of the very few able to match Contador's violent accelerations in the high mountains.

Wiggins simply would not be able to.

The tour will be interesting next year, IF, Froome gets to ride....

On the same site, the question is posed as to how they could race together again.

One cannot realistically conceive of a Tour Champion (Wiggins), riding in support of his strongest challenger (Froome) on the same team.

Interesting dynamic, to be sure.

After the stage he won, I already said I can't wait for next year, with Froome, Contador, baby Schlekie-poo, and hopefully Gesink, Tejay and Rolland in the mountains.

2013, I think, will be a much more entertaining tour than this year's.

Let's hope all those riders you mention can make it this time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Gesink has really not done much at the Tour since CERA was taken off the menu? I had high hopes for him in 2010 but 10th was all he could manage. I don't even want to think about banking on Schlecklette busting out a stellar performance.

Contador v. Froome I'm definitely keen to watch  and hopefully Van Gaarderen and Rolland can join in the scrap.

Yeah, he's a dead ringer for the chicken man in more ways than one...

I don' think Hinault, for all his protestations, ever rode for Lemond.

Ever!

Asked by a reporter why he attacked his own teammate, the Badger replies, “Because I felt like it.” and “If he doesn’t buckle, that means he’s a champion and deserves to win the race. I did it for his own good"

From the book, "Slaying the Badger", by Richard Moore

I would kill to see that kind of attitude in Froome.
