well i guess its going to be a little embarrassing for you when i come riding passed you on my antique perambulator..... (u stir the pot, i stir the pot)

29ers have their purpose.

I doubt it, as you will have to start way at the back with all of the other 26ers... See my previous post.... I won't be embarrassed as I am aware of the fact that my equipment is superior... The purpose of 29ers is to roll faster and over more obstacles easier.. BMX has been around since the 70's, so there are still others that will ride with you.

To the OP, as someone else mentioned, don't shop at Cajees...

A couple of friends were having a friendly 26er-29er debate around a braai in May. Decided to put it to the test at Groenkloof 20km circuit. First round on my 2011 29er Scott Team, second round on my friend's 2010 26er Giant Anthem X2. The result , 2min 26sec faster on the 26er. I am ashamed that I fell for the marketing BS.

Tit for tat, go with your heart.

Cycling long distance on dirt roads is just that, mountain biking is XC :D

Ye I also almost fell for the Scott marketing crap. Giant rules! Now just add 29er wheels to that Giant!

To the OP, if that's what the bike shop dude said, he's more than marginally uninformed. Unless he was referring to a particular manufacturer/brand.

26 will always be there alongside 650b and 29. There is no better than, it's what suits you for the conditions you ride in and as a personal preference.

Don't think they will stop manufacturing 26ers but i would not be suprised if some local agents don't bring in any 26ers. I mean, if a'm not mistaken scott did not bring in any carbon 26ers in 2012?

I also heard that 26ers will have to pay a higher entry fee for races, as it's considered "old" technology and that they will have to start in their own group, at the back of the field, so as not to slow down the faster 29er riders..... 'strue I'm telling you..

Bike shop did mention 650B, said that only certain shock types will have the clearance to fit them, example Fox Shox, a lot of the Rox Shox will not be compatible.

My own argument is to follow that of vehicle OEM's eventhoug the discontinue vehicles they still manufacture spares etc. Same for 26" me thinks, they have been here since MTB came on the scene with gazillions sold all over, you can't just stop supporting that market?!

Horses for courses! I just love my "in-betweener"! Just buy the bike you love and have fun on it! That is what it is all about!

I've also heard that one won't be able to get 'slow takkies' (aka running shoes) anymore. Apparently some shoes also roll over obstacles better than other not-so-lekker takkies! Apparently, if you buy a very good camera your photography automatically improves on the same scale as the price.

I've also been looking to get a better computer 'cos my typing skills will improve automatically and I will automatically meet all my deadlines...

So you still on Windows 95. It still is the best OS out there. Out with the new, in with the old!
