Anyone know of any Pygas that participated in any stage races Sani2C, Joburg2C or Cape Epic etc.? Just wondering how they performed since the OneTen29 is marketed as being at home in any XC stage race.

Recently completed joBerg2c with Percyzn. Bikes, no issues. Bodies, different story ;)

Rode Sani2C on my ZeroTen, no problems, just needed a complete rebuild after 2 days of mud....

Saw two or three OneTens as well.

I'm hoping to come down to SA to try the Joberg2C or Cape Epic in 2015. I guess the Cape Epic is much more intense, well it seems it on youtube lol. Just need to get some serious training in oh and get my Pyga built :D

+1 on comments re Hatfield. Ask for Alf. He built a frame up so that I could see if I was comfortable and happy with the setup before buying the frame. He was also more than happy to advise me onparts, sizes etc as I was sourcing some of the parts on the hub, second hand, sales etc. Can really recommend them!

At the moment I'm not sure about the bar length. What bar widths are you guys mostly riding with? Is 700mm a little narrow for a 29er?

Same with the stem length, I'm 6'2" and will have a size L frame. Any longer than 90mm would seem too long for this type of bike? Also, with the wide bars it may be better to go for a shorter stem (maybe 70-80mm) to speed up the steering a little. What do you guys think?

Hmm

gonna be nice.

Can I suggest, go for the XT brakes, with Icetech rotor's.

Grips, ESI Chunky

Pedals, I'm using the XT Trail pedals.

I originally build mine with a 70mm stem, was to wild, changed to a 80mm and changed the bike totally.

I have narrow shoulders, and well short, initially my bars were 730 wide, and found that I still gripped the bars towards the centre, leaving 30-40mm open, so cut the bars a bit.

I like the Hope hub's.

30.9mm seatpost.

I run 70mm stem with 700mm bars - this after a bike fit.

I realize this may be a little obscure, but it pertains to Pyga builders none the less...

I've just been through 2 bottom brackets trying get rid of an awful creak, no matter what I did, couldn't get rid of it. swapped pedals, cranks, BBs, chainrings... nearly went mad. I rode the whole of Sani with the darn creak.

Then this weekend I removed my Syntace rear axle and greased it up. Problem solved. The creak was from the chain pulling on the rear axle, and a lack of lube back there. But it resonated in the frame and sounded like the BB.

Hope this saves someone the same tooth-gnashing.

Yip, I replaced a BB within 3months of owning it! Guys at LBS drilled a small hole in the underside of the frame bb housing for any water to drain.

Also found that cable which passes alongside crank rubs on frame and causes a squeak.

will definitely keep the axle greased!

My reasoning for the SLX brakes was that there is very minimal weight saving with the XT for a 40% price increase. The SLX have the Icetech too I believe but I'll have another look at that.

I haven't come across thos ESI grip but will check them out.

30.9mm seatpost.

Thanks ryan. On second thoughts, I think I'll go for a longer (740mm or so) bar so I have the option of cutting it back to the most suitable length.
