hey, I thought I was on your ignore list?

Nope, I wasn't at the meeting.

I've stated how I feel about the original post. You disagree. Cool. I'm really indifferent about your ad hominem views pal. I don't even know you.

You keep using this word in different a context each time - go back and re-read your chappie wrapper and try and use it correctly if you want to be verbose

And now having read through this thread, I must warn you all.

Please stick to the opinions on this thread. Just because you are being rubbed up the wrong way, doesnt not mean you can attack the person.

Do not play the person.

Secret trails? In Cape Town? BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

But seriously, a nice loop from Town to Tokai would be AWESOME!

And I've always wanted to ride in Newlands forest!

Thanks for all the hard, selfless work, Rob.

Back to the matter.. The minutes of the first inaugural forum meeting will be online soon. Meurant might be on a mountain somewhere right now but when he is back in the office, it will be uploaded and available for everyone to read what transpired at the introduction.

Thanks SB for adding some perspective..

Sorry, I will post it in the TokaiMTB hosted forum here too.. Rob not sure if you want to do the same on your forum??

There can't be many unknown illegal trails, I think the secret surf spot analogy is appropriate here.

I ride on park island in marina da gama, because it's round the corner.

The only illegal trail I ride is the dirt one linking clovelly golf course to ou kaaps/die ou wapad=>silvermine.

Do you think to ride on the secret trails you have to have a secret handshake or a pointy / cone hat ... could be cool

I was a member of Clovelly Golf Club for years and often raced down the sand track in my old Landcruiser to get to my tee off time on time. As far as I know, the property (to where the tar road begins just short of Silvermine Rd) belongs to the Ackerman family and should not be illegal to ride on a bicycle. Can't say 100%, but during my days at the club, it was never an issue.

That's why I started out on this hiding to nothing. I want a trail around the mountain. If it means a trail from town to Tokai first, great!

In theory, that should be relatively easy to achieve.

From the Kloof Nek car park we know the route all the way to Rhodes Memorial, Get access to the jeep tracks heading towards Kirstenbosch. They are wide and can easily accommodate multiple users. Bypass Kirstenbosch via the road reserve ( still gravel) and then back on to the mountain through Cecilia Forest up to Constantia Nek. Hop across the road and we're talking to private land owners pretty much all the way to Tokai. Done!

After the above discussion, I decided to go ride Rhodes Memorial to town and back via the blockhouse, in stead of the Tokai ride that I normally do after work on a Wednesday. It was bloody brilliant, I should do it much more often, just to look at all the poor commuters stuck in their cars on the highway. Not having done this ride too often this winter, I was also very surprized to see how many riders there were on the mountain, as well as trailrunners and people walking their dogs. I passed at least 30 riders on my route. This can only mean that people feel safer here than ever before and that can only be a good thing because it will make it more difficult for the bad elements. Kandui, keep up the good work.

What time were you riding? To see so many guys out it must have been after 4:30pm. I was riding my usual route from home towards the Blockhouse and back and stopped and chatted to 2 TMBers. Late afternoon and early evening there is a lot of activity on the mountain which is great to see.

The tactic of populating the mountain is the best crime deterrent. When you see women going for a run in pairs or just taking the kids for a walk, you know people feel safe. It's not an excuse to become complacent, but there is the inherent feeling that the authorities and civilians are somewhere in the background (visible or invisible) working on keeping us safe. Part of that feeling of safety is perception too. "We're not quite sure, but let's not take a chance". If that's what the criminal is thinking, we are on the right track.

The new TMB motto: "Love it.Respect it.Ride it.

some big fences to get around windefarms there near constantia nek, this has been looked at before and hopefully there's a decent solution as it's the weak spot in the link. blerrie lekker dream!

Illegal is such a rude word.

The unauthorised trails that I would have ridden if they weren't unauthorised are: -

The Constantia Greenbelts & Die Hel (very early and with great humility - those tannies and little dogs can be mean)

The lower forest roads between Constantia Nek and the Cecelia Parking Lot (this should be legal and was proposed in the previous EMP)

The old Ou Kaapse Weg route between Silvermine and the Naval Base (should also be legal as it makes a logical link between Silvermine and Tokai)

The hiking trails on the northern side of Red Hill (should also be legal, very little hiking activity there)

The southern side of Tokai, jeeptrack and horse trails (which should be legal, I do far less damage than a stinky horse)

Before anyone takes exception. There are no big secrets here Sanparks knows about all these spots,

All but one of the supposedly "secret" trails I know of have been mentioned on here. Sigh..
