Vandals at work on Table Mountain. Why did you do this?

I agree, this type of behavior is so unnecessary. Up here in JHB area, I'd kill for that type of "untouched" space to ride in. All this serves to do is ensure that at some point, the parks people are just going to say no more visitors. They ruin it for everyone.

Looks like they also just dumped their unwanted old bike there as well. :whistling: The litter just adds insult to injury

DJR, you care to comment on the "Litter" issue?

Looks more like someone drove into it at night.Bit difficult to just vandalise someting like that??

Not impossible to be done with human hands, i sometimes take my dogs for a walk round the old Boksburg prison and seen damage done where no vehicle can access.

Too much brandy & coke and a gutso 4x4?

Those stones popped out because the framework was pulled.

You should see what's happening on the streets of Jhb, just about every piece of meta is being ripped out the pavements. Manhole covers are long gone, not its the metal frames, support for storm water drainage, covers for street lights. circuit breakers in the street light poles, and more. And what's being done by the mogoes in power? zilch.

I hate this !

looks like someone was trying to remove the gate to go sell for scrap metal .

that could be the only reason for this (unless some1 was tired of carrying their bike over the wall) :whistling: ... in the end they prob only got away with the chain and lock that was keeping gate locked

And then throw the concrete bench into where ??

There are 2 ponds along Tafelberg road. They are fed by water cascading off the cliff above. The ponds are tucked into the corners of 2 bends in the road, the first one is about 400m from the damaged gate. The ponds have are about the size of a family swimming pool and have an overflow that is about 3x1m. The concrete bench was moved 300m and dumped into the overflow.

If metal theft was the motive, they were unsuccessful and let their frustration out on the bench , or this was pure vandalism.

Concrete benches would post a challenge to most dronkies.Had to be placed in the back of a bakkie.Sounds more and more like the frustrated secret mtber

The bench is still in the overflow and looks like it may still be in one piece.

Will ask San Parks why they don't pull it out and put it back where it belongs.

Unfortunately this type of action has become the norm in South Africa.

Very little we can do to stop this.

Sub-third world country we most certainly are.

Ironically, that is more like 1st world vandalism, where there is no point. or money to be gained...

you must see the vandalism in UK and US.... lots of park benches thrown in ponds!!
