went to look at Blade and Triggers at Canal Walk over the weekend and they have a very selection of knives

I have had my eye on the CRKT Pilar (Large) and they have one in the window in all black .... it talks to me, so am going to see if they put it on special, and if they do not the owner said he will do a special on that specific knife for me then ... so excited to see.

It is a mean looking knife that. If it feels right in your hand, go for it.

I've had these two Gerber Gator folders for, I think, about 15 years. The smaller one is what I carry around with me most of the time. The bigger one is a very tough tool and comes along one wilderness expeditions. It is also a great shape for skinning. I got them as a thank you gift and didn't think much of them at first, but once I started using them, I fell in love with them. The handles are a hard and sturdy rubber and they are quite light. The handle shape sits very naturally in my hand. The texture of the handle means it does not slip. It is made of ATS 34, so it does not rust and it sharpens and holds an edge nicely. I never see them in the shops and I don't know where the person who gave them to me got them from.

Hairy, perhaps I'm trying to say: Buy both the little and the big brother! :)

it comes in a regular and this large, this just fits better yet is not much bigger.

I Prefer larger blades. 3.5" blade length is my preferred size. Some people give you the look when you pull out a big knife but that doesn't bother me at all.

For Spyderco you should check out Knifeguy. He imports them directly and has the biggest variety.

for those of you who know your steels ... is there a remarkable difference between D2 and 8Cr14MoV Stainless Steel.

Knife Guy and Sharper edge have the Large Pillar with a MoV for a decent price, and I prefer the satin finish blade with G10 scale vs the all black D2 from a aesthetics perspective.

Hairy, go check out https://knifeinformer.com/ . At the top of the homepage there is a "ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO KNIFE STEEL". Lots of info there

As others have said the Honeybadger is good value at the price point, I enjoy mine.  Have never been a big Kershaw fan myself, prefer the Honeybadger to my equivalent Kershaw despite it feeling less substantial. After that guess it depends what you want to pay.

One comment on tanto's, good for stabbing things but not great as an every day knife, find they are impractical for every day cutting and sharpening

I retract my previous comments RE the Honeybadger ... handled a few now and they feel good ... the large though has a better feeling than the smaller one.

The clip is also a nice deep carry that looks like a pen when in your pocket, so win win.
