After trying a couple of bike shops over the years, I have to say Hanber @ Cycleteknix is very reliable, and helped me out of a few tight spots, prior to race day. Any lbs with a high staff turnover,is asking for trouble. Make it your responsibility to get to know the staff and mechanics, and see how they operate. I hate it when some of these floorguys treat you with such ignorance. As for Bridge Cycles-I'm not surprised!

ARE YOU CRAZY??? I wouldn't take my wheelbarrow to cycleteknix...it has too many moving parts for them to figure out. Got my bike serviced there and gears were not functioning afterwards, went for a refill on slime in one tyre and I waited 2 hours with every excuse under the sun why its not working even though I gave wheel to them already pumped up. Owner sees them having a hard time and takes the high road.

Went to them a few months ago. I asked the guy to tell me more about a Scott and Silverback mtb as both are in the same price range. He tells me to go for the Scott. (Badmouths the SB even though the SB has better components)

So I was like, why do you even stock the Silverback bike then???

Sure there are good and bad things to be said about any cycle shop.

I've had great and some time not so great service from Bridge and other shops.

Just accept that you sometime get rotten luck as a customer.

Hope Bridge clears up the shop a bit and learn from the mistakes.

I always get good discount there.....but i only have one mechanic who EVER works on my bike and that is Lourens Calitz @ Cycle Centre in Edward str, he is a master wheelbuilder and really good!

It's easier to discount when your starting price is higher than everyone else. Example XT pedals Bridge R1099 CycleLab R878

Have to agree there - they're dodgy! Asked for a price for something the other day, the "salesman" asks one of the owners for the price and I overhear him ask " For who?". I'll spent there in the past, but will think twice going forward.

Typical sales mentality for the consumer who only want "a great deal". In other words a big discount. Does not matter that the starting price is marked up so they can mark it down....

They think we have lots of money ... first of all it was not easy to get good components , it very costly ,we sacrifice for our bikes and again it take years to build a bike to our satisfaction.

They dont need those kind of guys in the bikes shops. he must be fired.

They must fully repay your friend.

I dont use them but i did buy an IDT from them. I am based in the CBD and they are in tableview. Hanber made a plan on a week night and met with me at 8pm in the CBD to drop it off and all he asked was R30 for the petrol cost. The IDT was also about R200 cheaper than anywhere else. Revolution are also another favourite and I have also had positive experiences at Epic Bike shop in the 'burbs.

This is not a thread to debate the good and bad experiences of various CT bikeshops. If Bridge can't give their side of the story(sounds like defending the indefensible) or correct their mistakes, then we as a community need to let them know that we're not happy.

this is more than just a rant, it's bordering on criminal...

Read the OP... Theft... Theft... Theft... And the owner gave the client a KUK houding... Stuff them.

It would appear that if you should take your bike to these guys they steel, stuff up your stuff, and when you complain they have a give- a-f attitude.... Stuff them... they owe you big time. MariusL, your mate had a KUK run in with these guys...

Cyclists be aware... be very aware....

went in there once and never again.asked price on a new bike as no prices on the bikes.one oke asks another and then they decided to have an argument as to the correct price.while this was ongoing for about 5 min i just left.on my way out there was some promotional material as to the up and coming epic.the oke stopped his argument about the bike price and told me the promo material was free if you bought something in the shop otherwise i had to pay R30.they have never seen me again and never will.

Welcome to the sleazy world of the the bike shop business. Trust nobody! I've also found that shops don't treat all customers as equally. Normally it's us okes with the cheap bikes that get the worst service - m.o.
