I am a ‘Roadie’ that loves riding mountain bike. I am riding mountain bike for 3 years now and enjoying it. Time was not very important for me. A lot of mounties is now very proud of their time. Time will never be so important for me when riding mountain bike races!

Some people race (to win or for time), others just ride.

Nothing wrong with either.

This.

I've always enjoyed the thrill of finishing in a road race and getting a podium spot or at least a very good time (in say the August).

I will go for this in MTB races once my seeding increases by enough so that I don't get stuck in the bottlenecks.

But it's simply important that we enjoy the race for our own personal reasons.

if you dont want to a timed result then just ride without a chip (thats entirely up to you).

personally i pay the race entry and expect it to be timed. i like to test myself in both disciplines and see if iv improved from previous races!

PS i do MTB and road races!

as an organizer I'd love to leave out timing...as a competitor I love hearing my time...but the best "time" is that spent on your bike especially when you are with good company and a cup of ILLY waiting for you at the finish

GLAD to see you see yourself as part of the "GOOD COMPANY" or....is it the ILLY. Anyway, I look forward to having you along..24 hour??? the list is growing and all single speed will get a free entry....hows that????

The only Mounties who cares about time are indeed actually Roadies #truestory

True roadies care about position, not time. That's what those funny number plates and photo-finish cameras are for.

If I want the time I'll look at my watch.

I use a timing chip because in SA it's "no chip, no result."
