There lots of ridiculous rules! The music one is true because it makes you less aware of your surroundings which is a safety concern. The mountain bikers used to be quite relaxed but on the road I've been fined for the wrong team kit, socks with branding, wearing leg warmers and having bar ends on my mountain bike which are also seen as dangerous in the event of a crash.

Yeah I remember the branding on the socks one from when I was a junior. They made us turn over our socks biggrin.png

Wait, bar-ends? :^)

UCI:

4.1.039 During MTB races no traditional road handlebars may be used.

bis The handlebars extensions of a triathlon or time trial type are forbidden, but traditional barends are

authorized.

CSA:

1.9.4 Handlebar ends and Handlebar extensions shall be plugged and must not have sharp or jagged

edges.

Rules that should be complained about are race distances for our Juniors and younger categories. Lots of times CSA distances are more than what is required by UCI. We are going to end up later on with young cyclists tired of the sport or just overtrained with stress injuries. Before they reach U23 level they should be enjoying the sport and focusing on proper riding skills before focusing too much on results. Therein also lies the pressure to perform at any cost lots of times opening the door to doping. There us already a huge problem in schools rugby with doping with added pressure from parents and coaches. My 2 cents.

Just watched the MiWay 3 towers episode that was aired on Monday night again.

Interesting, the UCI rules say no short sleeve shirts, no cameras, be that on head or bike, well guess then allot of the front runners (aka James Reid) have a problem, have a close look, a couple of them with GoPro's on the bars.

and well if UCI is concerned with rider being distracted by camera, fiddling with it, now what will they say if you touch your Garmin or Bryton.

If no mp3 players are allowed, will the pro teams be banned from using radios to communicate to their riders? I mean they have an earpiece in their ear which can cause them to not hear a cyclist to their left or right (depending in which ear they have it) which can cause an accident. I am all for the "No mp3 player rule though. offtopic.gif I think they should ban mp3 players in the gym as well, because you get the guy doing a set of his weights and then listens to his tunes for the next 5-8min "resting", but then again I would also rather listen to some music than to some grunting gorilla.

Sleeveless shirt: Come on CSA/UCI. I used to love MTBing in my sleeveless shirt. Extra cooling on those long slow rocky climbs which lowers the risk of dehydration as well. Ja sure I got the odd scratch from a thorn bush but none life threatening which brings me to my next point. We all sign indemnity forms at the race which indemnifies the organizers and sponsors etc. against any claims resulting from injury or death. Why then can we not use a sleeveless shirt. Sure, if you use a mp3 player or camera and use it whilst riding you can cause a fellow rider to fall and get injured. Therefore I can understand these rules. I will ToiToi for my sleeveless shirt though!

Man I miss the way MTB use to be. People were more courteous. Gave way to faster riders where they can. We use to always greet each other and sometimes pass a joke and never thought of being a weirdo. No you are a weirdo if you greet or pass a joke.

I think radios been banned for a while now . I hear the rule now states no more cameras on handle bars ?

In the TDF they would ban radios for certain stages so make it more "old-school". I haven't seen anything banning the complete use of them.

The camera on the handle bars, going to be a interesting one.

the three towers, some of the big names had GoPro's on their bars (James Reid)

If you look at the Epic well def, allot for the races the big names ride camera's, even if it is for media only, then they can't declare others are not allowed.

I think they are trying to ban the use of cameras on handlebars because it distracts your attention from the trail/road. But surely if Roxshock and Fox can develop a remote lockout for a shock then Gopro and the rest can develop a remote for their bar mounted camera which should not take more than a second to operate.

I been told the rule was changed ! HDF is having a camera on your handle bar distracting you from anything ? If this is true then you must also remove your bell , Polar and fluffy toy from your handle bar .

Not looking to start a barney or anything but the "logic" used by the CSA/UCI is that non essential equipment should be banned.

It can be argued but a Garmin provides useful info like how far left to go, heart rate etc.

GoPro is for fun (non essential) and when you hit start or stop you only have one hand on the bar and no eyes on the trail.

I like the fluffy toys.

True. I also can’t see how it’s distracting. I suppose not all people's hand eye coordination is awesome to find and push the small silver button whilst being on a bumpy single track.

From new UCI regulations

4.3.014 Cameras are not permitted during qualifying rounds and finals. The riders are

responsible for securing the fixation of the cameras in order to avoid any danger. The

UCI can decide to allow a camera during finals but only for the usage of the TV

production company. Metal/permanent fixtures to attach the cameras are not allowed,

tape and velcro are allowed.

Comment:

1) see also, in particular, articles 1.3.001-1.3.003 and 1.3.031

2) cameras may be used during training sessions (article 4.3.021) under the conditions

laid down in this article

(texte modified on 1.07.12)

Not sure what this means for local races.
