capediver Posted May 24, 2014 Share Don't like the idea of one side clipped and the other not, with the idea that you can choose which side you want to ride on. If on tar or gravel you would have the luxury of choosing while riding, but on a proper trail you don't want to be thinking of going you are going to get the pedal on the side you want when hitting a tech a sectionAgree...once clipped in, it would be difficult to unclip mid stride and flip the pedal round for the flat...looks like the clip could be removed....?? if they can then its a nice option, no need for two sets of pedals.... TAAHIRWP Posted July 8, 2014 Share So my hydro/backpack was stolen out of my car. I had pretty much most tools in there that could help any rider on the trails who had mechanincal difficulty. Also my winter and summer long finger gloves, and pumps. Oh, and not to mention my sentimental valued allen key set handed down to me by my dad... I've got about R2000 now to replace the pack and content. What would you get for that price? Edited July 8, 2014 by TAAHIRWP
T-Bob Posted July 8, 2014 Share Fark, that is a beast. Sorry to hear that. Start with trip to camping and climb in paarden island and pick up a Gelert Edge hydro pack. R500 with of for a 10 ltr pack with chest & stomach straps, 2ltr source wide neck bladder, 3 decent compartments (with bladder holder), stuff area / tools area, additional pockets and zippered internal w/proof pocket for bits. Straps down tight and is comfy, haven't had a chance to test in summer as yet. Pumps: there have been heaps of specials on the various sites and Crown had a ton of tools / pumps (lezyne i think) on offer the other day when I went in. Gloves: jeez, pricey. Depends what you had and what you want. Know anyone in Jozi? Get to the Billabong store for Dakine clearances ones. Winter? I've got the Pro's from Buycycle for about R399 odd for road and dirt. Such an annoyance. Had the same thing from my ute last week in Plett. Thought they had taken just junk but each day there is something else you miss. Jumper cables, compressor, tow ropes, lube, cramp tablets (?!?!), glasses, Itrips, tool kits, 1st aid kit, jack, blah, blah... R9k in total. Outsurance decided we weren't covered as we hadn't added an 'unnamed amount' onto our policy. Feckers. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41GWZKi4qyL._SY300_.jpg Edited July 8, 2014 by hellocolour
LazyTrailRider Posted July 8, 2014 Share Damn Taahir, that sucks! An excellent pack option (I ride with one) is this: http://dialdbikes.co.za/dakine-mens-session-mtb-pack-8l.html. The HydraPak bladder and valve has in my experience been much better than Camelbak's, and it has a really practical set of compartments. Glove-wise, check on Swindle. Tools-wise, as Hellocolour has mentioned, Crown always has a good number of bits in their bargain bin. Pump-wise, I've got two spare, you can have one, let me know... I hope you come right! Edit - for a short term cheap and cheerful answer for the hydration pack you can get something for around R200 from Mr Price Sport. Not the best but they do a job. I started by replacing my Mule with a Dakine Nomad and because that was such an upgrade, decided not to skimp and got Birzman tools, pump etc. the only thing I haven't replaced yet is the Leatherman. Plus the reservoir is easy to take out, clean and put back in again. http://dialdbikes.co.za/dakine-mens-nomad-mtb-pack-18l.html And u also picked up a pair of these Pearl iZumi multi sport gloves Edited July 9, 2014 by gwhite
T-Bob Posted July 9, 2014 Share *cough* evoc *cough* Love those packs but aren't they are about R950 retail without a bladder? With a R2000 budget that's not leaving much for rest of the kit that the mongrels made off with. That Da Kine seems a great deal. On the tool angle (no not me!), try the bicicletta site, they have some Crank Bros multi tools on special today only. http://bicicletta.myshopify.com/collections/daily-special That should help rebuild the stocks. Saw bicicletta have a couple of nifty pumps on their clearance page. one that is a bomb and pump thing all in one with storage for quick links etc and one crank bros speed pump with pressure gauge for about R180 a pop. New toys are new toys... there always has to be always a silver lining.

True, the Evoc packs are a littl pricey. I have these 2: Evoc FR Enduro Team 16L. I paid about R1600 landed. Another R300 for 3L Nalgene bladder from Sportsman's (which I prefer over the Evoc bladder anyway). This is part of the back protector range, so they are quite a bit more pricey. It has the full face helmet and knee guard straps. Plus the waist belt is very supportive and comfortable (they made it like this to keep the back protection in place). 16L may sound small compared to the 25L+ packs out there, but I can't see a need for more than a 16L as a daypack. http://www.wigglestatic.com/product-media/5360069215/evoc-EVOC12211-blue-and-white.jpg?w=1000&h=1000&a=7 Evoc CC 3L. I use this one for 90% of my riding. I paid about R640 (locally), and it came with a 2L bladder. It has the capacity for a 3L bladder, but I think the 2L is perect, as it allows space fore one to put a spare tube at the bottom of the pack. I easily fit a tube, pump, multitool, tubeless repair kit, tyre levers, bombs, and cellphone in this pack. http://www.bike24.com/i/p/6/7/42376_00_d.jpgRush Sports has a pretty decent range of the Evoc packs. I don't think anyone locally stocks the back protector range, and those will exceed the R2000 budget on pack and bladder alone, but they are pretty awesome! For Taarhirwp, if it was me, I'd go for something like this: Evoc CC 10L (R1200 incl. 2L bladder, and it can carry a 2nd helmet) http://www.profirad.de/images/evoc_cc_10l_trinksystem_rucksack_farben.jpg http://26bikes.interbikes.eu/file/21331/evoc--cc-10l-backpack-1.jpg Or if you want a bit more space, then this:Evoc CC 16L (R1110 excl. bladder)http://www.wigglestatic.com/product-media/5360079620/Evoc-CC-16l-TEAM-sky.jpg?w=1500&h=1500&a=7 http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/content/images/thumbs/0006519_evoc_backpack_cc_16l_0.jpeg
enjoi Posted July 10, 2014 Share If I had to get new kit I'd definitely also go for either the Evoc CC 10l or 16l. Tool wise I've always had my eye on one of these that basically has all you need.

Kief pack with plenty space. Swidle also had a special R500 for Dakine Nomad with bladder, it week after i baught my pack
