Believe it or not, I agree with what you said here.

Ever been riding in baggies and as you shift back to go down a steep drop, the baggies catch the nose of the saddle..... ?

Ever been going down a fast rocky decent without your feet clipped in and your foot slips off the pedal?

you've seen the light (or is it the dark) :whistling:

Nope, the difference here is that every single one here actually believes in something other than invisible bicycles.

They just can't agree on each others preferences.

Why do the gravity crew insist on the following:

1.Fitting brakes that could stop a train when they only ride the spruit, What section justifies these bulky stoppers, is there a secret trail that nobody knows about. Yes when going to the alps these become a necessity and they are doing what they are meant to be doing but surely overkill and a bit poser on a such a tame ride. If it was my money I would fit the components that suite the majority of my riding, not just 5% of the time.

2.What's up with the mx and protection gear on the spruit and bike park? Are those gloves and protection gear not hellishly hot? Again I can see their function in the alps but generally are they really required on trails where you are cannot generate the speed or the air to get more than a roasty.

3.Why flat pedals, surely if you ride mostly at places that requires pedaling it makes sense to fit pedals designed for it. Sure it enables you to do great tricks in the air, but then again you must first be able to do them before they are a requirement.

Most of this can be answered by: I fall off. A lot.

Hence full face helmet at the bike park (only on the jumps tho.) I don't like cleats because I fall off a lot and kept getting tangled up on the bike when landing.

Big stoppers. Just nice. I like the modulation and the fact that i can slow down the wheel without locking it. I also ride other trails and feel that changing brakes only for the spruit seems a bit dof.

I guess the real argument here is. Are you just posing? or can you use your kit for what it was designed? or do you hope to use your kit for what it was designed and so feel that it would be silly to get something that will limit you later?

If yes to posing then why?

If yes to the other two points then good for you. go for it! be it lycra, or baggies.

I just bought a Trance 29er to replace a Reign 26er.

the fact that a pro has used the Trance to good effect in last years world enduro series shows me what the bike is capable of.

It helps me buy with confidence knowing that it is good enough for a pro.

Dropppppppppeeeeerrrrrrrr SEEEAAATPOOOOOST! :)

I agree with the foot slip off, sucks. but thats why i use flats with spikes on them as its harder for that to happen and when it does happen (happens to cleat riders too if there is a pedal strike) its quicker for me to recover.

My 5c

Lycra cause it's more comfortable than a flapping baggy

Clipless cause I feel safer standing and sprinting without my foot ending under my chainring or back tyre

26" for a few reasons - I can't afford a decent 29er, I'm short and like quick turns and when I tried riding a 29er it felt like I was turning a bus even though it rode MUCH softer than the 26".

Out of my experience a bike does make a difference to performance but so does weight of the rider as well as fitness level.

Last but not least, I don't know any pro's except for Lance and Burry (bless his soul) and the few guys at my LBS.

I ride for the adventure, adrenaline and fun of the sport. I do not try and immitate anyone cause what works for you will likely not work for me.

Fair enough, if you think you need all the gear ito protection and are comfortable, who am I to differ

For sure, it will always be a weight vs power ratio game this

One of the coolest Pros out there in his baggies !!

Canondale missed a trick here. They should have had a truckload of the baggies for sale during the Epic while they were still hot. I've been looking for baggies that do not run up my quads while I am pedalling, but they all seem to move around and hamper my upward pull on the pedal stroke. If I see any decent ones in Canada I'll get a pair or 2 for those shorter-than-two-hour rides.

Man love it, went from baggies/lycra to almost a 26er vs 29er debate ha ha

People should ride what they wany how they want etc. I wear Lycra cause I think it suits the long distance riding I do, plus I don't really like the flapping sound of my wind breaker jacket I wear in winter. Lycra works for me (on a bike, at home it's baggies or nothing :whistling: )

Would I buy what the pro's have, yes at least in clothing, cause normally it is the best quality stuff. Go buy a cheap pair of shorts vs an expensive pair (within reason on expensive) and after 1 year see which pair is still ok.

As for bikes, I bought mine because I saw it 2 years ago and wanted it on looks. As anyone how upset I was to find out that frame was a 29er only. Needless to say I always wanted that frame. Timing was right and I moved to oh my gosh should I say it.... 29er.

Loving the frame and yes on the 2 rides I have done it has been faster than my previous top end 26er HT (new one is also HT).

Is it more fun, so far no. I could flick my 26er around a lot more, but i am sure with time I will with the new bike (slow learner).

Oh the other bike is a SS 26er I built from loads of parts, painted it myself and love riding it from a huge fun factor..... Do I care what it looks like. NO I just love riding. Thats what it should be about just riding.

What I am saying is the thread should actually be asking which type person are you. The ones that buy and wear stuff because you want it and fits what you ride/do and works best or are you the sheep type that just follows everyone or finally are you just the guy with too much money that just goes into the shop and buys what the Pro's have cause you can...........

... were dished out 29ers by their sponsors, so they won. But they would also win on a 24er... so all the sheep rushed out and bought 29ers!!
