2010 was actually a little too dry for my liking, I think we got feet wet only once!

Last year was great fun with all the crossings and I think the cold water did wonders for the legs.

My team mate and I totally agree on the effect of the water on the legs.

Nice. cool, fast flowing, pressure on tired muscles.

A short saddle break. A cool down.

I think it was brilliant.

Anyone looking for a team member. I wasn't going to ride but if there's a space for me I'll join someone.

I've done it 5 times before. I am fit at the moment. Time isn't important. Last year did 13hrs but don't mind anything up to 18hrs. Just want to go and have fun?

Hi

During this 24 hour 230 km event our team has a number of boxes that we can access at different points along the route. Any suggestions from the seasoned TB riders on essential contents for the different boxes ? A few other questions:

  1. Can you rely on the food and drinks provided at the various stations or do you need to go fully self sufficient?

  2. To complete in 15 hours assuming good weather, what should the first 50 km and next 50 km be ridden at speed wise.. Worried about going out too fast !

Good advice: Put a warm jacket and leg warmers as well as long gloves in your bag for Bergplaas. If it is wet(and it will most likely be), also dry vest , pants and shoes. Just put the used clothes in the bag. If it is really cold , then wet clothes can make you real miserable from there till the end. There is also no watercrossings from there on.

It is gonna rain a lot in the Baviaans this week, so all the streams will be flowing. Good Luck!

SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Following an extended period of unseasonally mild and settled weather over much of South Africa, conditions are expected to start deteriorating over parts of the country from today (Tuesday, August 6) on wards.

A cold front accompanied by an upper air trough (characterized by stronger winds aloft and a general increase in atmospheric instability) will cause rainy, very cold and windy conditions to set in over the South-Western parts of the Western Cape.

These conditions will spread rapidly to the remainder of the Western Cape, Southern parts of Northern Cape as well as the Western parts of the Eastern Cape by Tuesday evening.

By tomorrow (Wednesday, August 7) the upper trough is expected to intensify into a cut-off low, slowing the eastward progress of the system across the country. Consequently, widespread showers are expected over the Western and Eastern Cape provinces. In particular, heavy falls of rain (greater than 50 mm per 24 hours) are likely along the Cape South Coast and adjacent interiors.

Areas most likely to be affected are the Southern parts of the Cape Winelands, the Overberg and Eden district municipalities in the Western Cape as well as Kou-Kamma and Kouga local municipalities in the Eastern Cape. Residents in the abovementioned areas are thus alerted to the danger of flooding.

Snowfalls are expected from early tomorrow morning over the South-Western mountains of the Western Cape and Northern Cape, spreading eastwards across the country to include Lesotho by Thursday. It should be noted that due to the extreme nature of this weather system, the freezing level (i.e. the lowest altitude at which sub-zero temperatures start being encountered in the atmosphere) is expected to be very low in places over the Eastern parts of the Western Cape as well as the Northern interior of the Eastern Cape.

This will promote snowfalls not only over the mountains but over adjacent terrain at lower elevations as well.

The public are advised that such snowfalls are highly likely to result in the temporary closure of certain mountain passes.

Anyone know how to load the map they provide onto a 910XT? When I follow the mapsource instructions it says that it finds he device but it doesn't have the capability. Can it be exported directly to GPX?

I've also searched on Garmin connect but only find the 2012 course loaded.

Ek weet nie ek bly in die Overberg, maar soos dit nou hier reen en met die weer wat voorspel is vir die volgende week kan ek nie sien hoe die Baviaans gaan droog wees nie. Die reen tref die Oos-Kaap gewoonlik so dag of 2 later.

nee wat moenie te veel stress nie dink nie ons sal soveel reen kry wat al die riviere sal hoog loop nie.

Die weer lyk ok vir die 17de

The new map shows the route staying on the R102 from Kabeljous to Fountains Mall. The climb is about 100m in 3km (with the last 900m at 5%), before levelling out to the finish.
