Ok, so did the 2 Edge 500's last night, first one, downloaded, then i ejected it from machine and send it through power cycle, so that it can update itself, all went good, or thats what i thought, then went blank and thats it, not even a hard reset reboot is bringing it back up.

(mind you this is the unit that died on Sunday, saying battery low, but thinking something else is wrong some where)

Other unit, 100% no problems.

So Road trip to Garmin today

Yah, I just take all my units to Garmin once a year and have them all upgraded, maps, software, whatever, it takes them a few minutes and as I am not clued up on downloads etc its just more convenient.

Garmin is one of the most "customer orientated" companies in SA, or at least of all that I have come into contact with, they stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Got to agree on Garmin here, +100000

They are theeee best customer service vendor in SA i've seen, been there before, don't have a problem driving there today, other than a way to go since I know my problem will be resolved in 15 min while I wait.

Coincidently, my Edge 500 has been doing some odd stuff lately too - particularly with the gradients - it bounces between percentages, sometimes right up to 899%......but when you download, it's perfect.

And my Forerunner410 has also just packed up - it also just powered down and won't even register that it's being charged. Not having the greatest luck with Garmin!

I would suggest to take it in to Garmin in JHB and let them take a peek. The technical guys there are top notch, I have never had an issue they couldn't sort out right there and then.

What I like is the staff have the ability to make calls, theres no let me check here and confirm there, they check, fix or tell you whats up, I have posted it here before but I had an old Garmin which I took in to have the maps updated and repair a screen issue, the guys took it and said come back tomorrow it will be ready.

When I came back the next day the guy looked at me all glum and sad and said when they opened it to fix the screen they broke it and he showed me a cracked case and screen.

I looked at him and was about to get all upset when he chuckled, reached under the table and gave me a brand new one with a "compliments of Garmin", all I paid for was the maps.

I dont care what Garmin's cost, this kind of service means I will pay their price and never even look elsewhere.

My Edge 500 have been showing “inconsistent” speed readings. Whenever I go faster than 30km/h it would jump all over the place from say 45km/h to 15km/h to 24 to 0 etc etc. Until it settle at what seems like a correct speed and then does it again. I've been doing intervals on the trainer and this only happens at high speed. Anyone seen this before?

I've replaced the battery in the speed/cadence sensor. Been wanting to check out the magnet on the wheel but haven’t gotten that far. I haven't updated the software for about 18 months either. Any advice would be appreciated.

Looks like my thread disappeared with the last glitch ....

I am not upgrading to Version 3.2

Tried it and it was a farkup ... rolled back to Version 3 because it works and doesnt need to be fixed!

There are problems with Version 3.2

They added some "Support" crap to "help identify" units. It only makes your unit slow and takes forever to startup.

To locate satellites with the new version also takes much longer.

I normally switch the unit on when leaving the garage, by the time I get to the front gate, its locked, loaded and ready to go. With version 3.2, I was almost 3 blocks away before it located the satellites.

Tried it for a week then decided ... screw it, roll back to V 3.0!

Hold the two buttons down on the 410 until it reboots. Aim to hold it for about 30 seconds.

Did that, and the other 'factory reboot' given to me by Garmin - nothing. Remains dead to the world! Anyway, sent it off yesterday to Matthew at Easygis- lets see what they say......

I would have just driven to Garmin, Beyers Naude offramp myself, instead of off to Matthew and he sends it to garmin.

Send it to Garmin SA, they replaced my FR405 with a brand new 610 Bundle in 10 days door-to-door for just R2200.

Fair enough, but I have a good relationship with EasyGis, and I believe that when you have a good point of contact like I do with Matthew , I'd rather wait a few weeks and use him. I'm also sure that this isn't going to be a quick repair, but rather a replace (given what I have researched - some of the 410's have a glitch when you regularly use the System Shut down feature), so it probably would have had to go through them anyway.
