I was tempted to buy some kit, I then thought "Will you feel like a knob in the kit cos you never rode the Epic? Yes I will, these events are marketed as special lifetime experiences, but they then trash their brand, if they have so much kit left over, then fire your marketing team!

My dilemma, bought a lekker Comrades track top this year, it's proper warm and often of late the most suitable extra layer in my cupboard... can't bring myself to wear it in public though. Ran the race, even got all the way to the finish, but no medal for me

You did more than enough, wear the damn top.

Isn't it just a Tshirt? you will know if you have finished the Epic or not. So will your friends.

The whole concept around Amabubesi, Comrades green number, RASA blanket and whatever else people have worked extra hard for has nothing to do with knowing, it has to do with a concept that was sold to athletes who decided to reach that goal with some hard work and a bit of OCD.

So ,NO.

I'm going to solve the problem next year though

IMHO

You were there, you trained, you paid your entry, you became part of the experience and haver earned that shirt.

Do you deserve a green number, no.

Rule #16 // Respect the jersey.

Championship and race leader jerseys must only be worn if you’ve won the championship or led the race.

---------------

Same applies for participant kit. If it's riders wear and you weren't a rider then don't wear it. If it's supporters or general event kit promoting the event then kewl.

Had a guy try to buy my mates old epic number that was knocking about in the back of his ute. There will alway be grubs who want to be part of something but don't want to put in the effort. Walter Mitty each and every one.

Now to the guys who ride around Cape Town in yellow or polka dot jerseys a quick word...

Same as a mate who crashed out of the Epic in 2012, he has the right to wear the kit, even if he could not finish it.

No problem with that, but has he earned Amabubesi kit ?

But should it be OK for him to wear the Amaboepensie kit if he hasn't already done and finished 3 prior to that? Me thinks not .....

Edited - Boris beat me to it ...

I don't think the ouens understand the rant so lekka.

Hell, I mean how many okes wear Tapout shirts, good thing is they easily get caught out.

I have the same rant - the Amabubesi Kit i earned first before buying was SOLD OUT by the end of the race to all and sundry...

Its a disgrace.

I can kind of see the Epic kit side of things in terms of marketing and exposure, it's not like they selling the finishers shirt. It's still definately not for me though. I also don't wear replica team kits etc - just not my thing.

The Amabubesi stuff though would piss me off something special. Surely they could just email those specific people that qualify for it and say, hey guys and girls - we got some kit you might be interested in?

If they enforcing this then cool... I'm sure it would satisfy most peoples gripes.
