FYI : Got this message from a mate earlier at about 13:15...Two visitors from Jersey,robbed of bikes now while cycling in Tokai forest..1 x Grey Giant 29'er and a Specialized 26' stumpjumper.Attacked with sticks by 2 x Charlie kids.No bike pics available and they are searching in the Westlake area today and tomorrow.Your ears and eyes would be appreciated.Thanks

I get rather irritated when people feel they need to use pseudo names when describing criminals. So are they implying it was coloured kids or was it black kids (from Bravo Charlie)? Or where the caucasian?

Its not illegal to use a persons physical characteristics to describe them and its especially important when its criminals.

Same here.

It is an identifying factor the same as height, weight, gender, hair colour etc.

This is terrible news. :cursing:

I was up there too yesterday morning, but reckoned the badly eroded state of the bridle path was more likely to cause me harm than robbers. Tokai was full to the brim with riders, so the perpetrators must have been very brazen.

I find it strange that they went that far up, it's quite a hike, but perhaps the rest of the place was too crowded for their liking. Also, I don't think the wine farms on the Constantia side would be a good getaway route. Most of them are fenced and dubious characters with bikes will stand out like sore thumbs. Methinks access and escape to Hout Bay is more likely, especially because of where it happened. Years ago there was a gang of housebreakers that used that route from Hout Bay to Constantia until the Mountain Men caught them.

I hope they get caught soon and Karma gives them a good snot klap. We cannot have this nonsense in Tokai, it is not Gauteng, bloody hell! ;)

Lets get this sorted out! Time to start chooning suspicious types hanging around when we are on our bikes in groups big enough to face up to them.

I must say that the Bridle Path area is where I feel the most vulnerable in Tokai. I ride Tokai on my own every weekend, and that is by far the least populated area, so it makes sense that the crooks will target it. Does make you think though, that these guys are there in Tokai and watching, cos they obviously know that they'll be able to do their thing there with few witnesses.

Going to be more careful in future!!!

Comes from Community Policing (Neighbourhood Watch etc) Radio protocols.

Whiskey = White

Bravo = Black

Charlie = Coloured

Whiskey, Bravo, and Charlie are used by the neighbourhood watch and Security companies to describe people on open channels. It's not meant to be offensive but rather the opposite.

Tokai is a slightly more controlled environment, compared to Table Mountain. I don't get involved much on the Tokai side as that is Deon's turf, but in recent times , I can't say that I have seen any ranger on patrol, on foot or in a vehicle.

The increased presence of rangers has certainly helped on this side and I can imagine it would have the same deterrent effect in Tokai.

Standing in one place and checking for permits is not the same as being on active patrol.

The 2 guys who attacked the Pushman's were ranging all over the Tokai area on Sunday. There were spotted over towards the Muizenberg side an hour before the attack and even the Pushmans rode past them (and greeted them!) a short while before the incident.

In my opinion, the attack happened below the Bridal Path due to unfortunate circumstances.

The suspects were looking for an opportunity and the Pushman's took a wrong turn, not being that familiar with Tokai.

The crims saw an opportunity and followed them.

Had the couple stayed on a busier path, there would have been no attack.

Mr Pushman said to me yesterday that he forgot to take the Tokai map along, just shows you how important a map can be.
