One day when I build my 350LC engined R3, I'm gonna spray it in this livery.

146_0903_02_z%2Byamaha_YZF-R1%2Bworld_su

Have a friend doing just this. Has the R3 donor and just purchased the Banshee motor. Is going to rip.

Another guy has built a 350 motored R1, all in weight of 100kg!!! Then he made it a cafe racer

Oh and then a guy called Kevin crashed his 350 engined Cagiva Mito at Zwartkops over the weekend. Cooked the brakes, fluid boiled......... That thing rips, over 65hp at the wheel!!!!!

Google some of the 421cc builds. Insane, over 100hp at the wheels, easily.

Just blueprinting the motor, so removing burrs, manufacturing flaws, etc gains an extra 10hp over stock and relatively easy. The 350 motor is probably the best motor ever built I reckon!!! Know of a guy in Cpt who bought his new in '84. Its on its 3rd crank, last oversize bore and over 230000km on it. Incredible!!!!

P.S: Guy here in Jhb with an Apriia RS250 with a 350 motor but Ohlins, Brembo's, carbon EVERYTHING. Think he is an aircraft engineer or something.

Would be interesting to know if he will get all the electronics, digital dash, gear indicator, etc working. Mating 80's technology with today's technology can be quite challenging.

I know of those big bore kits available from the States, last I looked, just the kit alone is about R35k.

Back and topic and I could not agree with more with The Doctor.....

Agreed. Somehow the swith to Ducati doesn't seem to suit everyone. The last guy that made that move successfully was Mr and Mrs Stoner. ;) And the biggest irony of all is that just as Chupa Chups is becoming competitive on his Duke, he is leaving for HRC. I like Dovi though, I hope he wins one next year.

Easily done nowadays actually. Zeeltec do the programmable electronics. The digital dashes can be bought off of wish, Koso, Acewell, etc work too. Its actually amazing what electronics can do but with the 2T's its also all in the porting, spannies, etc........

And yes, a cub or cheetah package goes for that, seen kits in the states where they pretty much just use the casing but those are R60k plus but you talking 525cc and pushing 125hp plus...........

SK, If I should do it, I would like to keep the dash standard, no aftermarket digital stuff.

It will only be the 2T motor, with the spannies exiting under the seat on both sides, ala GP style.Obviously it will have to be 100% custom spannies. (wonder if Neels van Niekerk is still around)

There is a chap here at my place of work with an R3, I've spent quite a bit of time on my haunches around that thing. It will take a bit of ingenious engineering, maybe a cutaway or two on the belly pan, but it it looks doable.

Hell, it's nice to dream!!!!!

Julian from Superbike Solutions is also worth keeping in mind. He rebuilt a Paul Smart the other day, good grief the guy is talented.

Good to know.

The ex Technical Manager for Yamaha South Africa is an old neighbor of mine, he has his own shop now, he is also keen to give this one a go. I just need the funds now.

Ai Ai Ai Crashlow

Fractured ankle and out of the weekend's proceedings. That's bad, he was actually on pretty good pace.
