They are well catered for, in the 40km, 20km and 10km routes

Even the 40k route had a technical descent that took some casualties. And maybe some did the 40 k's at one of the previous events and trying the marathon for once, and that route is 9/10 on the hard core scale.

So what will be lost by a decent pre-race briefing of the technical descents? a few sighs from the manne maybe, but a lot less injuries i suggest.

A briefing will just prep your brain for what your eyes are gonna see... its not gonna benefit you or prevent you from crashing.

Its kinda like your mom telling you to lookout for cars when crossing the road

An absolute beauty, enjoying the race and still have time to appreciated the surroundings. Although I think some riders felt like that zebra carcass on the descent (luckily there was no smell otherwise some riders might have had an even bigger problem).

Maybe that Zebra's was a victim of the elusive black leopard previously discussed on the hub?

I had vultures circling above me on the sojourn through that game farm - bad omen I though since I was trailing the field. But looked like they were just catching a thermal.

Ok ok same thing happened again - short & steep, rider ahead stopping. Tuck & roll still clipped in, no harm done.

Spectacular comedy value.

Watching divernick flat on his back was more painful.

By the time I made it to my back I was good. Lucky for me my landing pad was a nice flat rock, as opposed to the plethora of sharp ones! I landed square on my chest; and the scars on my heart rate strap device will attest to that!

Hi there hubbers....

here is my story from the weekend.

This was my first VG, doing the 40...after about 23k's into the race, started a small group of riders chatting away and drinking all our fluids....because it was scary hot out there....

looking at my clock, I saw 37.....odd k's done, and I thought to myself, **** man, only a few meters to go. So I started giving it my last boost I had left in my lungs an in my legs....

After about another 3 to 4k's......and I cant see the end..... (thinking to myself something is wrong)

reaching 43k's on the clock and what do I see in front of me?????? The 5Km to go sign....so ja. Somewhere, somehow I managed to skip a turn or something.....

I finished with 48k's on the clock........thirsty and kapoet..... just over the 3H 45 minutes......

I must just add, this was the best race I've done, will definitely do it again. Thanks to all the people involved in VG.

this was lekker.....

See you next time

I nearly finished first in MY category in MY starting group on 29er hardtails. They should sub-categorize based on wheel size and ds/ht too.

Makes it too complicated.

I reckon to make life simple, age category in every year.

So a 19 ,20, 21, 23, 24..........category and so on till the oldest competitor.

Then facial hair or non facial hair category within the age group.

And lastly 26 inch or 29 inch wheels.

That leaves four winners per age.

Thank heavens facial hair and not hair on the head!

More in the lines of prohibition jazz.

I said kinda 'bluesie' thanks for the specifics

That's about the golden age of the blues though as well? if you can have the blues and be living in a golden age as well, sort of mutually exclusive.

So that one girl with the mo would take the "females with facial hairy" category across all age-groups, I take it?

Sorry, I was just being pedantic

When it comes to music I go overboard in a nerdish kinda way.

The blues was at it's best in the late 1920's and 30's.

You must watch the movie Crossroads, based on the legendary Robert Johnson.
