Had to withdraw from the race due to clash with nationals swimming on Sunday. Was sad to be missing the race but with the weather looking the way it does, I am very happy I will be in an indoor pool ;)

Well if you look at Malmesbury and Stellies weather forecasts it looks a hell of a lot better than say Milnerton or against the coast... feeling a bit better about it though, gonna be a jol.

Is the start at 6:30am? Is that correct? And what is the gap between groups? 5 mins?

I'm in group H. Can I aim for a 7:05 - 7:10 start time?

They combine groups depending on the numbers that pitch. So you could possibly start much earlier.

Pheeew, then it's better than last I looked at Windguru.

Prepare for the worst.

Aero tuck.

Steady pace no surging.

Lekka padkos chow regularly.

Stay with the bunch.

Great adventure!

Scared to death. Looking outside the window, our flagpoles are perfectly horizontal in this wind at the moment. Trying to imagine riding in that on Sunday.

anyhow, whats the worse that can happen, you bail out mid ride. How often does buses of shame come around to collect people?

I came back from durban last night......just before landing pilot gave weather update and he mentioned the rather "brisk" southeaster.......i cringed

Then wife asked me this morning.....isnt your race on sunday? .....*me*...yes why?...she said ...go look outside

but really now...as you say nazmo...whats the worst that can happen. (and we nearly managed to make it to the end on that training ride.....wind was just as bad...and that was only 8 or 9 of us at the end)

Best to come earlier, as groups will be 150-200 riders strong (!!)

Latest from PPA website:

"Please note that entries and substitutions for the PPA One Tonner closed on 10 October and that no late entries (or substitutions) will be taken at registration prior to the start of the event on Sunday 20 October. Participants who did not register during the week are advised to be at the venue well in time on Sunday morning to receive their PPA funride numbers and/or event entry stickers. Tandems will set off at 06h30 sharp, followed by groups of roughly 150-200 riders, at 5 min intervals. Riders with a seeding of A-H are requested to be in their start chutes no later than 06h15. Good luck and have fun!"

Whoop whoop, can't wait!

Sure am hoping for that too, and gentle Southeaster to blow me out there in the 1st half. Too much to ask for, I know. I'll settle for a bunch made up of strong diesel engines.

Looks like you will be getting your Wish DJR .. South Easter predicted :-)

Any strong riders starting in Group M ? I am strong on the straight’s and looking for a few guys to team up with ?

I'm in O so maybe we'll start together as I understand the group are quite large... dunno if I'm strong enough rider though, not much experience with road races. Did the Argus and then West Coast Express (which was loads of fun and the first real taste of bunch riding). Way different to the MTB races I'm used to. Eager!

EDIT: Oh I will be on a road bike ;)

Madz and Waldo Hi ya :-) simple way to find out if you strong, last race what was your time ?

I am pretty strong but i have had a lazy week and i am not as strong as of the guys out there..

Myself Argus 4:00 and West Coast Express 2:25

Waldoz, if the groups are large enough, I am sorry but I would like to move forward, But if we all are on similar fitness levels.

Lets try stick together, especially considering the wind factor, its going to be very bad if you out there riding alone..

This is what windguru has to say about Cape Town - too much red for comfort. Hope it will be quieter further inland. Otherwise it'll be much like Dale said above. Htfu and survive!

PS Sorry, it doesn't show correctly, basically anything from 16 - 22 knots South easter (that's 25 to 40 km/h)
