PING A[S]G and CWC - Do you accept my challenge?

Just a question (as I have been invited to go on international trips with a sport team before too).....

How much of what you (the cyclists themself) pay go towards getting the coach, or manager, or neutritionist, or physio (or any of the extra people and maybe their family) over there too?

Hi hayleyearth,

Valid question indeed. We await a full breakdown of the costs for the trip from CSA, but CSA have committed to paying half the trip - the other half up to the athletes to come up with...or as it seems, the love from the hubbers! We will be spending two weeks in the UK, and the cost per rider covers everything(besides spending money) - including, flights...travel in UK...accommodation...food...overweight costs for flights...all the bells & whistles!

Rusty - please can you give us updates on the bank balance?

It seems there are many contributors and I for one am curious to see what the impact is of many small contributions and the power of thehub is...

Hi Eldron...as soon as the dust settles from all the activity, I will count the amounts that have come in and get back with the amount contributed to date. Difficult at this time...as funds transferred today will only reflect tomorrow in my account!

How's about I give you all feedback on Sunday?

Once again...thank you thank you & THANK YOU!! As I said to Wayne, any extra funds that Smittie & I won't need to cover our trip...will be given to the other members of Team SA who are in need of funds, to make the dent in their pockets a little smaller!

From an outsiders perspective who supports both CWC & ASG equally I applaud them on taking up the challenge.

I actually like the spin that both parties have put into force...

1 CWC say hey Wayne pay R50 and we will donate R5000 as its a cheeky but a nice spin

2 ASG say we have no more budget but we will donate 10% of sales for this period.

I say KUDOS to both for even accepting the challenge...

So I bought glasses yesterday so that R185 to the found if ASG pays....whoop whoop

Great cause and a great result.....BUUUUUUUTTTTTTT,

Lets look at this from a CWC / ASG perspective. This could quickly get out of hand with every athlete who is not getting the assitance required from CSA coming to the Hub to get the financial assitance required. Then they get put on the spot and they are damned if they dont (like ASG) and damned if they do (CWC expect more requests in the not to distant future as you have now set a precedent, dont pay up and you will be crucified for being a selfish retailer not giving back to the sport). Not mention Wayne and others who has come to the rescue twice and when number 3,4,5,6,7,8 come along, his pockets cant be that deep? (or can they?).

There are 2 issues here.

1. Is CSA living up to its mandate to develop and support cycling in SA? I wont comment on that one.

2. Its dangerous for 3rd parties (hubbers and retailers) being asked to fit the bill in an unstructured way.

Maybe that hub fund is the best way to manage this. Get a few guys to manage a central fund and manage the funds hubbers donate to causes the hub deem fit to receive funding from us maybe an additional way to get the pot going is for all "businesses" who use the hub to generate sales is to donate a fixed % to the hub sponsorship fund.

Just my 2c worth.

Not a bad idea...BUT

I'll donate any funds IF and WHEN I have some available... same should go with CWC et al!!

If you simply do not have funds - then who are we to disciminate? No presedent has been set...this is a collective initiative from a buch of likeminded folks that are also fed-up with CSA way of handling / hampering matters...

I agree, if we lived in a perfect world....where ones word was taken as the truth....lets see how the future requests unfold......
