There was an elderly gentleman who was down at the 45km mark on the long route, i really hope he is ok??

if anybody knows him, please let u know how he is doing...

any other major accidents?? didn't hear of too many which is a good thing

to end off, i'd just like to say, that whoever opened the window yesterday morning and let the wind in, u deserve to be ridden over by every cyclist who took part yesterday...

In the % group I saw some guy get blown off the road at around 30km. Luckily he managed to stay upright and stop at the fence

I got taken out by a Cedar Cycling oke in the % group at 42 kms. When i initially got up I thought I could straighten my bars and go on but when I saw my leg had been cut open to the bone I thought I'd just give call it a day.

The paramedics were luckily flagged down by the marshall and I was actually in their vehicle on my way to get stitched up when we got diverted to that guy who had collapsed from the $ group.

Apparently his heart rate was sky high and they ended up taking him to the Paarl Mediclinic and that was the last I saw of him. I hope he's okay, at least he was in good hands.

Agree - most people were just out there riding for their own gain. We had people on the brakes in an attempt to avoid going to the front. And no letting in the guy who just pulled his azz off in front. And yoyo'ing. I had the most fun riding alone and then with one girl from a group behind where the two of us sat and rotated lekker for a while on the R44.

Ja well, maybe I've just un-roadied too much... but it seems there are guys out there who really is less "road"-worthy than me.

Sorry rant off. Maybe it's just a windless Monday getting to me...

RANT ON

I agree. It is incredible how many people will actually brake to not have to help in the front. I also spent about 60% of the race in front of a bunch.

Just reminds me why I love my MTB so much.

RANT OFF

It was a fantastic day!

I enjoyed this race, although we were about 20min slower than last year but the proper racing started for us elites in the last 40km, experiencing a huge gutter on the R44 all over in the right yellow lane towards oncoming traffic, some riders being blown off the road (eg. Chris Jooste jnr) the racing was hard! Absolutely no wheels to latch onto, the main bunching catching up again as we were struggling in the wind, a kick past klupments up the climb dropping them again...unfortuantely another crash at the cones before turning left into Hels Hoogte road for Matthew Merrington...overall I am very happy, 26th overall (tied with 2 others)...

I never experienced the wind this bad on the R44 though, it felt like I was leaning in a corner the whole time.

hmmmm..... I started in back of B group - missed the initial split up Hells - as by the time i got up front the break was just out of reach. B sort of regrouped down hells. There was a group of us sitting on the front which included a Lady, a guy in red kit who was supposed to start in %, a guy in JOC kit and a C group rider about my age +-26. When we dropped down the hill under the N1 on the R300 a couple of new faces moved forward (always seem to be heros on the downhills), then over the intersection and approaching the water point on the left.......

Here is were things got a little interesting for a second!.... so im sitting about 10 riders deep, 2 guys riding side by side in front of me, guy on left (L - in black kit, probably around 50 years old) swerves to his right and nudges guy on his right (R - in colourful kit with a few mates around in same kit) over centre line, R then pushes L on his shoulder fairly aggressively and shouts at him, L gets upset and in a brief moment of frustration gives R a right hook on the head, R locks up brakes and falls in front of me. I somehow swerved left and missed the fall, think a couple of guys went down!

One of my friends got taken out in that crash, he could not even finish the race

I might be DQed.

Myself and a few others.

Our motorbike marshal was taking cell phone videos of us in the leading A bunch on the R44, guttering over the 'white wall'.

All the seeding races in the Western Cape this year had angry weather gods:

99er, storm and tons of rain in the heart of Feb

Tonner, winds suitable for kitesurfing

Burger, potent Cape Doctor

I hope not! Would be very unfair if you guys are singled out...

I was in that group, not sure if it was the same fall though. All I remember there were two ladies in the fall, one with a pink shirt (young rider) that came down infront of me. About 5-6 people fell there in the middle. The B group had alot of people, PPA marchel kept on indicating to the rides to stay left of the middle line several times warning them.

Rolling hills sorted everyone.

this is the one that nearly took me out........slowed down just in front of it and someone went into the back of me.....luckily stayed upright though....took some effort to catch the leaders again. Those rollers broke the bunch up bigtime, think there were only about 10 left at the turn into helshoogte again
