Couldn't help to laugh at those protestors, protesting about the race and the cost and after their protest got on their bikes and rode the race

I dont understand your argument.......

Do you agree with everything what is going on in our country at this moment? I assume not, so why are you still living here?

They are making a stand against what they believe isnt right, but they still love riding their bikes, thus they went to go ride.

(No I was not part of the protest, didnt even know it was planned, but I believe in what they are trying to do.)

Hi,

Is there confirmation that there was no traffic officers.

Reason I am asking is that currently we do not have any road races in Bloemfontein as Traffic officials not allowed to work overtime and therefore we can not get them except for OFM.

The last two months al except two races were moved to MTB.

The finish was incredibly stupid. Almost had a crash as we were sprinting for the line. No one bothered to warn us before the race about the finish line being up the access road. We were all sprinting for the cones

Not sure what group you were in but I heard the announcer tell both the group starting in front of us and our group that the finish had a sharp left turn to come back up the road we were starting from.

Agreed that it wasnt the greatest finish but we were definitely warned. Maybe they forgot to tell all the groups.

Did you see how many cars had to park on the road side????

Seriously? Enough parking? HAHAHHAHAH

Did not get any at the starting blocks. Used the farmers gate.

Nope. But you can use a venue where there are more than ONE entrance and exit for the venue? No?

And I do WHAT with my plakkies when I start? I don't have my mom walking me to the start of every race to take my plakkies when I start.

This was...I repeat...WAS one of the top 10 races in the COUNTRY with THOUSANDS of entrants.

I don't think they even clocked ONE thousand entrants.........sad to say.....

We rode back to our home after the race with the bikes.

The short distance riders had it pretty seriously bad with heavy traffic. Trucks in particular.

On the 80 and 106 the traffic was perfect.

Surely you have done the old Telkom Satelite Classic. There is tons of parking on the field but the okes still park in the road...so they can gap it

As for the finish we all survived it thru the years with no issues

In a way it was safer because no one took stupid risks.

Makes the sprint for the finish a bit dull though.

I don't know what race you were riding mate, but I saw many traffic officers on the route (80 k's), rather than complain, just don't ride in any races.

I am not sure how long you been racing, but I have been racing for 20 years and its the first time I complained, if I think its badly organised its my prerogative, besides if you read most of the posts here, you will see the majority pretty much agree with me!

Did the race.

Not part of any clubs involved.

Bad venue. Previous years' venues were better.

No toilets.

Dust everywhere.

Walking on your carbon shoes on stones and rocks and crap....not nice

Bike marshals was flawless as usual. Thank you for that!

Finish sprint was super crap and dangerous!

Route was fun and road surface was good.

Cannot comment on water points but the water tables at the finish was typical of a small race.

I don't see this race grow into something bigger.

If ASG has any hope of getting a good race going, they should go have a look what the organisers of the Pretoria Engen Classic did. That was awesome and you could see the trouble they went through to make it safer and easier for the participants.

Summed up ! ( agree with you)

The few toilets didn't bother me , I used the nearest tree . . .

Started in A and knew that I will not be part of the sprint ( Dangerous sprint) at the finish. I familiarized myself with the finish as per the MC ( mentioned the finish line for every group starting)

I ensure I have enough water / juice for a race thus can not comment on the water points.

I called the medic/emergency number as a girl fainted ( they were on site in 3-5 min) Well done. A lady in FL feinted at the hill before the satellite station. How she got there as we passed doesn't make sense however she got help.

a frustration was that I had to turn right to go home onto the satellite road . . . With the cyclist coming in , it took forever to get onto the road .

I am happy I made it in without any incidents and managed a disappointing 3:11 on the 106 route

I prefer the old satellite station venue . . .

Don't particularly care how long you been riding, why don't you organise the next race, the let us decide just how well you have done, as I said in my post, there were plenty officers at the intersections, if you did not see them, then they obviously were tired of waiting for you and left.

So not much has changed since last year's race. Lack of safety was one of the reasons I did not enter this race. The second one was the price tag: R230 for an 80 km ride where for R320 you get a complete closure of some of Jhb's most busiest roads and for R190 the OFM classic

Looks like an early Friday Fight Club!

Lots of mixed reacation, seems i missed all the fun, woke up ready to do the race then decided a MTB ride looked more appealing so did that instead.
