Yet more shocking confirmation of how pathetic our criminal system is.
Cant believe that this persons blood was not taken at the scene of the accident.
Cant believe that he has been allowed to ruin the lives of 2 different families and then gets off scot-free blaming it on a phantom rock thrower as he made his way home from a nightclub.
There should be an IPID investigation done into the investigating officers and the police who failed to take his blood timeously.
Such a travesty of justice.
There should be an appeal of his release.

My stepdad used to sometimes sit as an assessor in the high court. His opinion was that a huge issue is the methods often used to get or to preserve evidence, whether poor evidence handling or beating a confession out of a suspect. He reckons that there is a severe lack of proper process within the police service and lots of people get off because of technicalities rather than not being guilty. South Africa has always had a skewed justice system, but generally (with exceptions) our courts did and do apply the law fairly, but can only operate with what is presented to them.

This is an example of poor process on the ground d translating into this outcome

Saw on my Facebook news feed that another cyclist was killed on the N14 just outside Krugersdorp.

Netwerk 24 - Oudpolisieman met absolute lus vir lewe sterf in fietsry ongeluk.

I frequently ride on a piece of that road before going offroad again, popular piece of road to the offroad trail. Do not know where on the road the accident occurred, but that road can get busy sometimes.

Knew him well,Mike Henning aka "single speed mike". Absolute legend of a person who loved the extremes, from barefoot running, single speed MTB, cycling from Jhb to Capetown for charity, teaching outdoor survival in the bush ect. Do not know the circumstances of the incident, just heard he was struck head-on. Very sad indeed

This happened on Saturday morning around 05:30. The two riders were on the gravel edge of the road just opposite Crystal Rose Lodge and Spa (to explain - when you are heading towards Magaliesburg and you have turned left at the end of the Caves, you head up the Hekpoort road towards Krugersdorp direction, you turn right onto the single track section to cut the corner with the N14/Tarlton road. As soon as you turn right onto the N14/Tarlton road you are on the wide gravel edge. About 200m on there is a bend (as you're riding it bends to the left - bends to the right if you're driving on the road) and heading towards the gravel turn off going to Magaliesburg.

An oncoming car, with no headlights on, lost control on the corner and veered off the road into the two oncoming riders.
