Would like recommendations on courses where I and some friends can learn to fully strip and rebuild our bikes properly and basically be self reliant.

I'm in the JHB area.

Thanks any adice would be great as the net and youtube can only help so much.

Johan Bornman from Yellow Saddle Cycling used to offer great courses but he is off to Scotland in the new year. Currently he is setting up Cycle Lab's new workshop. Great pity.

Park tool blue book http://www.parktool.com/shop/big-blue-book-of-bicycle-repair-3rd-edition-BBB-3, YouTube and a decent tool box with the right tools http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/za/en/x-tools-bike-tool-kit-18-piece/rp-prod40997 or http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/za/en/x-tools-bike-tool-kit-37-piece/rp-prod55963. I have the first tool box and has pretty much all the tools you need except for a few like headset press or headset cup remover (these you can buy as and when or make yourself, else your LBS will remove and fit a new headset). The rest you can do yourself.

A bit of trial and error and a learning curve to start off with and it wont take you long to strip a bike down to the frame and rebuild it. Bikes are not complicated.

Once you have that down to a fine art and are servicing and upgrading your bike with ease, then you can look into servicing forks.

Sounds good!

Be grateful if you could keep those of us interested updated on this mysterious persons intentions if or when ever he/she decides to start running a course.

Thanks will look into it!

I can do most of the basic stuff fairly well already, and can most definitely strip a bike down, its putting every piece back together to work harmoniously with each that I want to master!!

Will do. Believe me, the first place he will advertise will be on the Hub.

Im keen for a course in CPT as well...

The iRide as mentioned is a good beginner mechanics course. There is nobody else that I know of that is doing anything in Cape Town at the moment. I guess you will have to mail them to check out when they will be doing another one.
