Have used Times for 15 years. Very, very happy with them. Tried Look Carbon briefly but found the shims needed to setup a pita.

second that. Times for every condition imagineable. Never let me down and are always consistent in performance.

Used in dry sand, mud, rain, snow, jungle plants and swamps.. hell they just keep working

So if not shimano pedals what is the alternative and why?

For MTB there is no alternative, unless you want to be changing them every few months. My SPD's look like they been through 2 world wars and they still work schweet. Tried Crap Brothers and they lasted 2 months before the bearings siezed. they also stuffed up my Sidi's soles.

But thats where it ends, as far as their gruppo's and brake systems, i'll stick whisky and keep walking

For pedals, go shimano 540 or XT.. no contest.. I've tried Eggbeaters and all I can say is .. mmm. they're OK, but back to back with Shimano.. you can at least feel/hear when u click in with Shimano, I battle to click in with beaters.

Only advantage with beaters is that they're light, but pricey too

S-Tracks or XTs. S-Track has got a very good pedaling platform and is lighter but tension can not be adjusted. S-Track cleat setup is more difficult with the use of shims. XTs are heavier but adjustable and bulletproof and many prefer the feel of spd. Whatever you do don`t get XTR cause the titanium axle breaks like a twig.

Your Spuds lasted 10 years and you want to change? Silly silly man :)

I have Spuds that have worn through several sets of cleats and keep on ticking.

If there was any doubt at all look to madmarc - if that "shitmano" hating dude will break his own rules for spuds then why look anywhere else???

Shimanos hurt my knees. I solved that with Time atac. I have a brief flurry of Look Quartz but back on Time Xc8's and couldn't be happier. Happy knees and bullet proof product.

I have spent many km's/hours hammering my Shimanos and all they require is a little bit of a clean and some oil (on the very odd occasion - I use Q20 for the pedals  ). I've replaced my shoes more often than I've needed to replace my cleats.

They've hit rocks, ground and who knows what else and as long as they're kept clean and greased, they NEVER fail to clip in or clip out. I have a few friends who "upgraded" to eggbeaters and some others and they all regretted it.

I've never used anything else and doubt I ever will. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
