Go Pro, is it worth it?

Got the Hero3+ for Christmas. Mine is going to be used for taking videos from my race car. Most of the guys that I race with, have a video camera on their car. I tried it on my bike and the video quality is great. Doubt I would ever use it in a bike race or to just go for a training ride. If you are going to use it for races just remember that the battery life is quite short, just over a hour. You can buy a bigger battery pack.

Sounds daft but depends on what you're going to use it for? I do mainly road races so not much point using it for that, bought one last year for Sani2C which was great but been lying in my cupboard ever since. So personally I feel it was a waste of money

Waste of money and a pain to use , even worse once you have realized what the adaptor's

and fittings cost . (almost the same price as the camera )

After this mornings ride on the Jeep track I was wondering what is it that I really going to film, 30km of Jeep track and no battery life for the 20km single track. Like you guys say the thing only film the part you don't want. I am thinking of buying me a downhill bike or something more extreme and I think for that kind of riding a Go Pro can actually film something decent. When you take that money (the Black one of R5500) and you can put it in the Spaarvarkie and save for a other bike, in my case a DH bike, or something else you can use more often.

+ on the chesty, on the helmet its uncomfortable.

Although to be honest I need a mount for the inside of my cupboard, because that's where mine has resided for the past 2 years.

I bought the Hero 2 and used it quite a lot. Now it's lying in my drawer and I am thinking of selling it. Editing a movie takes a long time. Uploading takes a long time as well. Once I have gone through all my clips, deleted the unwanted ones, strung all the usable footage together, searched for appropriate music in iTunes, added titles and then put the movie together, I can't see it anymore.

Initial idea to own a GoPro is nice, but now I wonder whether it was such a good idea.

Novelty wears off.... Nice to make some cool vids of riding initially... I rose with it a couple of times , now it sits gathering dust. Might use it to do a time delay of bike build.. But again, only I will watch it..

Also bought one 18 months ago, so now i have lots of videos but you will soon learn you need to be able to edit videos if you want to make any meaningfull clips to post an view.

the editing software uses huge memory so yo need a fairly high specced pc to do final editing. You also need to learn how to use the editing software to add music, slowmo etc. so if you prepare to invest the time learning how to edit then i'd say buy one. But don't think you can just shoot and have those magic videos you see at Cape union Mart, those are all professionally edited.

I'm buying the kit that converts your phone into an action camera. Makes good sense to see how much I like the whole video thing. About R1890 including all the mounts I could ever need.

I reckon renting a unit for a specific event makes more sense. No outlay for something that more often than not becomes a white elephant. Also with rental you get the latest technology, so no worries about upgrading an already expensive unit.
