I have been given a lift home by a passing care before when a glass bottle sliced my tyre and sliced it properly!

Then I have also given a cyclist a lift home after finding him in a similar predicament

It is called Karma boys and girls

Hi Eldron.

Firstly, if you read my complete post, i'm one of those do gooders.

But it pisses me off, when I see the "cool" crowd wanting help when it suits them.

A quick look at them, will allow you to spot their attitude.

If they are busy trying to help themselves with objects in their hand, then I stop.

C'mon man. Be a do gooder not a selective doer.

I understand your dislike of the "I'm special help me" crowd but the only way we'll change that attitude is to do good and hope it rubs off. Take pride on the fact that you helped - how that help was appreciated does not matter.

Silly example. On a lap of Suikerbosrand I saw some people that looked like the "I own a Dogma - I'm special" crowd - they were kinda milling about on the side of the road looking helpless. My buddy and I stopped to help.

They didn't know to check if there is a piece of debri stuck in the tyre and got 3 or 4 punctures from the same piece of glass. They ran out of bombs and had no pump. Silly noob mistake I know but a little help from us and they were on their way. They were eager to learn and asked me questions etc.

If I had judged them as per your standards I would have just ridden on.

Did they pack a pump, puncture kit and check the tyre after that? I have no idea. Hopefully. Probably. Did I make a difference? I have no idea. Hopefully. Probably.

Fark me. I'm getting old and silliphosical.

Not sure what you expected the roadies to do, they won't have a tube for your MTB and couldn't do anything about a sidewall cut. You got to be self supporting dude, one bomb isn't going to cut it, you got to carry the essential kit. A little jog home probably wouldn't have killed you either. But I agree it was a bit rude of them not to ask if you were ok, then you could at least have advised them that it was your own fault for being ill prepared on your ride and waved them on their way.
