I want to plant a jalepeno tree/plant in my veggie garden. Does anyone know if I take some seeds from the bottled banditos jalepeno that I buy at the shops and let them dry, will I be able to get it to grow? Or should I just go find one at a nursery?

dont think it'll work as making the sauce involves a cooking process which usually destroys the seed.

try and get fresh ones (fruit & veg) and dry it out

otherwise try http://livingseeds.co.za/vegetable_seeds/peppers-chillis

What care should I give fruit trees in the winter?

I also have a few small trees still in pots. Hoping to plant it next spring. Should I keep watering it

Thanks for that link Fanie. lol iv actually ended up buying a whole bunch of other stuff.

To get back to my jalepeno plant, Yesterday I asked my mom about living seeds and she asked why, Told her I wanted a jalepeno. Few hours later she rocked up at my place with one she went and quickly bought at one of her favorite nurseries.

PS: on living seeds under the large jalepeno it has a lekker "recipe". Fill the inside with cheese, then wrap it in bacon and braai it. Sounds lekker.

What can be grown in winter?

Spring onions <--Dont plant in rows, sow the seed, then start using the stronger ones as the slower ones grow and you have a good supply lasting weeks.

Onions <takes 120-180days depending on variety>

Leeks

Garlic <SOB to grow, but worth the effort

Asparagus <--them takes a long time to 'fruit' 2 years to harvest

Beetroot

Broad beans

Broccoli

Brussels sprouts <that's to scare the kids with

Fennel <for your horse

Jerusalem artichokes <looks pretty

Kale spinach <--seed might be a problem to find

Parsnips

Pumpkin

Radishes

Turnips

Watercress

Peas

Carrots

Pak Choi <__Chinese cabbage

Lettuce - only in the sub tropics or if you have a tiny green house for them

For a real confidence booster, try Starke Ayres pak choi seed, will see quick results.

Mini cabbage is also a good one to try but loved by snails

Radishes, fool proof!

The is a place in Brackenfell called "Die ou plaashek" the have a few lohmans for sale and get new one in often. I still have to build the coop before i buy. I am hoping to start this weekend.

I got 4 Lohmans last weekend. One of them just started to lay (still ~small) eggs.

Still figuring out with the coop layout (the old aviary). Anyone know where I can buy 1 or 2 straw bales in the Durbanville area?.
