The primary school where my boys went had a big problem with moles on their cricket pitch. Then they got a new teacher who had the cutest little Jack Russel that came to school with him and made friends with the boys. It almost instantly became the school mascot. It also started catching moles and everyone thought how cool it was - until he dug up so much of the cricket pitch that it was much worse than what the moles could ever have done if they were just left alone. So, get a Jack Russel at your own peril.  :D Personally, I think even a thermo-nuclear device cannot get rid of moles. They will leave when they feel like it, maybe just a bit before the cockroaches depart, but not by much. ;)

Gen, here's the humane solution...

Accept the fact that they are doing good (which they are), go out every morning and rake the hills flat across the lawn.

If it becomes unbearable get the exterminators in.

Oh hell..I would never killed them..was hoping there was just some sort of deterrent that we could use.

Suppose because there is no one there so no movement they are living it up. I reckon once we are down there again the dogs will have fun chasing them around or trying to find them...well the Beagle will sure have fun trying to find them..he'll probably dig a big hole in the search for the origin or the smell[emoji2356]

I have given up trying to relocate or deter them - I rake their hills and I stomp their little tunnels daily.  I tried windmills, coke bottles and all sorts, they all looked worse than their mounds and didn't work

I was gonna suggest the 2 l bottles with water, but i see its mentioned here. Not sure how effective it is though. I saw sometime back that you also get some electronic gadget that you put in the mole hole. It emits some sort of frequency that keeps them away. All hearsay, cant confirm if it works though.

Good luck, but if you like snakes can I suggest one or 2 healthy adult mole snakes. They wont dig up your garden like the dogs, but if they basking on the lawn, they will surely keep the wanna be burglars away.
