I agree with the original poster on this one. I have had brilliant service from Omnico in the past, but if his statements are true, he has a right to be annoyed.

 

Firstly, they supplied him with a frame with paint chips. That is crap. Was it a second hand one?

 

Secondly, because they were unable to supply him with the same frame as what he originally bought, he had to cough up R2 000 to make his parts fit. That us absolute bull, if they cannot warranty their own product properly, the least they can do is cover the costs.

 

Thirdly, they replaced his frame with a white one (he originally bought a black one). I too would be pretty pissed off if I had bought a black bike (I like black bikes) and was given a white one in its place (I hate white ones).

 

Most people would not agree with me, but proper service would be to order him the matt black frame and while waiting for it to arrive, let him borrow the white one.

 

What I find strange, is that he was told that they could order him the proper frame, but he would have to wait a few months for it to arrive................if CRC, Bike 24 etc can get you your product from Europe in 5 days, why can't GT get him his product too in 5 days.

Look, I agree with you regarding the lead time BUT warranty frames/fork lowers etc often dont match. They are obligated to replace or fix but often in the small print of ALL warranties it will have a bracketed section that says something like [colour may not be the same with replacement frame. Subject to availability] or some such.

 

This is because you have purchased the bike and only a handful of frame replacements are manufacturing faults with a vast majority of them being either mechanic/end user fault.

 

I would probably also be bleak, but this is just a bad taste rant...

 

I stick by my original statement and suggest the OP puts his toys back in his cot, phones Allan Hodson and instead of crying into his keyboard starts being pro active and positive (as well as civil)....

Omnico replaced my GT Zaskar carbon frame without any hassles! It had a few cracks in the rear triangle.

It took about 1 week, and I received a newer model version ( in a more aesthetically pleasing colour)

My experience with OMINICO is that they replace their bikes quickly. I ran through a shed of mongoose canaan's with them. Each time I was upgraded to the more modern frame. Would have still been on a mongoose if it were not stolen.

 

However, after listening to how often OMNICO brands are being replaced maybe their services is better than their products.

Getting super big frames warrantied is also a mission, they usually wont be kept locally, And if GT international sells all their frames and hasn't started the next years production you're poked. So be happy you got something.

 

If you're unhappy about it tho, which you should be if you get a old frame that proceeded to break, bitching about it here wont help, Phone somebody at OMNICO. They're only one of the biggest importers in SA so ask nicely and they will help.

 

New Road frames should always come with a fork, unless its crazy custom stuff.

Just my experience from Dragon, I bought a bike recently and upon collection I noticed that there was a massive scratch of the top tube. I bought the bike in Durban, and was leaving for Cape Town th next day, they did not have another frame or the time to sort it out. So they let me keep & ride the scratched frame and arranged for me to take it to Dragon HQ in Cape Town, swapped the frame out for an unscratched frame and did not charge me anything for the rebuild.

 

This for me is great service, all within a couple weeks :thumbup:

 

I am siding with the OP on this one. Poor service from Omnico on this occasion. Why should you have to accept a replacement frame that was chipped, and then to be offered a completely different coloured frame is not on, but to charge the guy cause they couldn't supply the right frame is a poor showing and below the belt.

 

They owe it to this customer to sort out the mess and rectify it in the correct manner

No,no,no.......centre tube is the piece that hits you in the centre where it matters when the other tubes decided they had enough of your heavy ass.....

I'm with the OP too.

 

Perhaps in the minority, but I too have had SHODDY service from Omnico. Two years down the line I'm still waiting (given up actually) for replacement frames for 'lifetime guarantee' sunglasses!

 

Tens of calls and emails and always a great verbal response, but absolutely no action.

 

So, no more Omnico products for me.

Just had a frame warrantee from Dragons Sports for my Giant road bike. They replaced the frame, fork and seat post as the colour scheme of these components from my frame did not match the new frame.Took 10 days in total.

 

Glad I bought a Giant bike.

I agree with OP. Cannondale tandem 2014 - Fork recall on 11 December 2013. 23rd February still no replacement. Attitude when I called also stank!

 

The replacement forks were supposed to arrive last week, lets see what happens this week.
