Which software did you use to get your total elevation gain?

Garmin Connect/Strava

Seriously, I'll eat my hat if the elites/vets match (or are faster than) their 2013 winning time.

Garmin Connect/Strava

In my original post about the 984m over the various climbs, I subtracted the lowest altitude from the highest altitude to get the elevation gained for each climb. I used Strava to approximate the time I was at the lowest point and then used the XML data imported into excel from previous editions of the race (not only 2013) to get the lowest point and highest point.

You might want to take some honey with that, to sweeten it up?

Cool vid, thks for sharing wazi

That road through Steyn City looks far from complete!

Anyway see you guys next Sunday!

Great video - well done.

Coming back from Lanseria yesterday, I was happy to see all the yellow "Road Affected" signs that were up.

Interestingly - the route along Cedar towards Fourways goes right past the entrance to Steyn City???

Thanks

That entrance which I pointed out is almost like a temporary entrance.  Looks like the new one they building will be the main entrance.  I tried to get access but they have some pretty big security guards.

Just a note - coming down Witkoppen we turn into New Market, past Northlands Deco and Business parks, then at the bottom turn left and then join Malibongwe.

This road is pretty stuffed with potholes and loose gravel all over the surface. There is one particular section where at least half the width of the road is ripped up..

You Right, i forgot to share that ( hopefully some or other person in charge is following this thread).  Or do we call Garmin pothole brigade?

For the race snakes, this will represent a good chance to attack.

If you aren't seeing spots yet from the pace up Witkoppen, 3 quick turns at the top of this drag on (what you say is) dodgy roads equals opportunity to split things up. For the rest of the 30K cyclists... moenie worry nie

There are hundreds of potholes on the route (Mnandi, R55, Jan Smuts, Homestead, Moray, Witkoppen, New Market, Epsom, Malibongwe, Lion Park road).

I'm sure this is something they won't overlook come race day.

What sort of a time must you have at SBR to get a sub3 with the new route?

with the old route you could ride sub3 if you could do SBR in less than 2h18 given that you start in a reasonable bunch (H or better).  I imagine this year you would be safe if you are anywhere in the 2h10 to 2h15 camp.

Has anyone looked at the weather!?

Apparently it's going to be raining and a headwind all the way

They can't get todays weather right so I'll wait till the morning of the race then check out the sky ;)

You are 100% right. Its absolutely pointless to even look at the weather forecasts at this stage. They are extremely unreliable this long before the time. Closer to the time, they will just be unreliable.
