There was talk of an official short cut. After the absolute rubbish MTB results I just don't believe any "fantastic" results anymore.

Stop and have a Tequila. Have one more. And another one

An interesting fact we experienced while spectating at this point, MTB riders are more open to free booze! Out of 12 guys who stopped all were on MTB!

I just love this race! Well done Tanya Harford and the rest of her Team.

Fortunately I arrived early for an A batch start so no probs with traffic for me but I did notice a very long tailback developing.

Waiting in the start batch the guy next to me looks at his back wheel and its flat. We start changing and realize his tube valve is too short. Luckily I'm carrying 2 tubes, so we sort it out with seconds to spare. I think this actually helped my start because the adrenalin was already flowing..Lol.

Stayed with the bunch till the climb into town, then went with the second bunch at a slightly more manageable pace. Finished 2.43 went to the car, refueled, re-sunblocked and went to the start and followed Joel Stransky's charity group around for second lap.

Second time was actually the highlight, cyclists of all shapes and sizes riding and chatting, really great to see. These guys make this race and I'm sure they have far more interesting stories to tell than the race snakes. Anyway second lap was 3.20, so Around 6 hours in total. Any other 2 lappers with race reports? (It's always more interesting reading race reports on the hub than in the magazines)

Bring on Double Century next weekend!

First lap done in 2:56, second lap in around 4.

Second lap was great, got to experience the amazing vibe and see the true hero's of the 94.7 battling in their shorts and takkies..... I take my hat off to them, a serious cycle challenge for them

I saw many people battling and suffering, kudos to all those attempting to finish.

So, now I'm that guy... So much for the sub 3.

I have noticed the times difference from carpet to carpet between my stop watch and racetecs version. Usually 45 seconds every year.... ask them?? That is harsh, I feel for you

I clocked a 2:59 on my Bryton. I knew this was going to happen. Racetec always adds a minute or so to the actual time.

That was a bit of a sufferfest for me but I like the new route. Came in at 2.42 - 5 mins slower than last year...I was very tempted to hit a second lap but the cold beers won in the end...

Had a blast but damn flying to Germany tonight with a 'Darth Vader' helmet tan for a workshop is going to be rather strange .... hope ze Germans don't laugh too much :blush:

Thanks to Wyatt for taking time out to chat both times and sorry to hear Carpet, hope you heal up quick!

My understanding it's from when the 'gun' goes to the last carpet and not carpet to carpet .... #eksemaarnet

Yup, I agree. I started my Bryton on the "30 seconds to go" warning. The Racetec time is still a bit more.

Last year I rode a 2:59 too. Perhaps I should just train a bit harder and make sure I come in well under 3 hours?

Myself and Bonus Jnr on the twitter ride this morning, before the heavens opened!

Was fun :-)

I snuck in on the right hand side with the jock kit, just to bad im looking sideways.

Had a tough race, got dropped twice but myself and a friend managed to claw out way back. Had to almost attack before every climb so I can still be with the group at the end, but there was not enough time to recover after Cedar, lost the group up steyncity. Still happy with my 2:35 in A at 25 place, 1 min30 down on the winner. Then I went for a second lap for my wife as she suffered a concussion on saturday's twitter ride. damn the second time was hard, legs were tired and back started acking, did it it 3:17 but it felt like 5 hours, still broken today

Awesome race in A cat, for once we raced..

There are two ways of doing the 94.7:

You drive the 36 km to the start and as you have an 06hsomething start you can get there, do a gentle 3h15 ride on your road bike sitting in a bunch, drive home for a late breakfast.

OR

You do it on your MTB;

With Nobbly Nics on;

built as a SS;

With a silly ratio so you have to work to get on top of the gear up every hill;

Ride the 36km to the start;

Hang around until 10h00 so you can ride in the heat of the day;

Realize you only have 1 bottle;

Stop and have a Tequila. Have one more. And another one;

Politely ask the tannie You are passing up the last hill to hold her line;

Get told to **** off;

Finish the race;

Grab a cold coke;

Cycle the 36km home;

Arrive home at 16h00;

Have a shower, beer and take your dog for a walk.

Are you stalking me? Started in W with a corporate entry on my SS with knobblies. Found the tequila and managed to bum a few beers off some spectators. Smashed my 4h46 last year with a 5h09. Going to aim for a plus 6 hours next year.

The bunches didn't want to work together or couldn't work together.

Pretty much a solo ride for me on the first lap, on the second lap I had some good company from Joe Slovo to the water station going towards Rosebank.

I thought I could tuck into a bunch and do a good time on my first attemp.

No proper bunches, too splintered and okes didn't know how to ride as a bunch. I thought h group would know their stuff, but alas.

Next year will have to train properly and aim for a time better than this year's 3:15 solo tt
