Whoever had the idea of parking at fourways mall and riding to the start, I owe you a beer! What a pleasure.

Well done to all, for me the biggest heroes are the people that start with the last groups and slog it out for 6 hours.

I abandoned the Fourways Mall plan once I saw the traffic was backed up all the to the N1, and over a km on the highway, so I hooked a left and parked at Epson Downs. Drag up the hill at the end was hard work but I would rather be on my bike than sitting in backed up traffic, which it was and always is.

I left the hospitality parking at 14:10, got home at 15:20 (Alberton). The biggest problem was the concrete barriers just after Erling Road - 3 lanes fighting for enough space for one car + cylists riding back up William Nicol. The bike having to squeeze between car and pavement.

2:36 (VD group), disappointed. I blame it on all the gelato in Italy 2 weeks ago. And the primi piatti, and the secondo piatti, and the vino...

Did you make it up the start climb with VD? Thomas and Mike didn't - burnt too many matches trying to get back. Edited by geraldm24

The start climb was easy. my rubber band snapped at Witkoppen - missed a few watts of power, and more!

Went likke I thought it might. That start just ripped me apart. I started in E. The pace wasnt that high but I just had nothing in the legs today. By the time I got to the highway it became a servival game. Couldnt really stay with any groups and ended up riding lots of sections on my own. Got dropped very time we hit a climb. In the end limped home in 3:13. Those climbs in Steyn city felt like they were never going to end. Now its time to put some more effort into loosing weight and doing some nice base training for next year. Well done everyone.!!!

I feel for you as I have not put enough training into the last 6 months, I started in H, made it into the paddocks with 2 minutes to spare(also parked at leaping frog - What a k@k little uphill back to the car after the ride), battled to stick with any decent groups that formed around me, either they were to quick for my legs or I would get sucked into a passing group only to get spat out 1km later and then get blown past by my old group(or the passing group would cause Chaos in our ranks) ... managed a 3:38... reasonable happy with it(based on the non-training) but would have proffered it closer to the 3 hour mark, I put every last drop of fuel I had left in the tank racing up cedar road thinking that was the last big hill(dumb move I know).....

Other then the above very happy racing earlier in the day compared to the prior 2 years where I only started at 9:55am...

Kudos man !!  when we Big we will nail It :)

Same place as me. It's hard work having to chase the group on the descents. Good interval training though.

That's not a bad time.

The same thing happened to me in 2012. I was sitting under the N1 bridge (old start) and was sweating bucket loads. We hadn't even started yet.

I was dropped on all but one uphill - some days it happens, other days are great. That year was my worst experience on a bike.

Starting in E batch, I found the 20km odd to the highway two-paced, not to mention the highway section. Guys were not prepared to work upfront compared to last year.....

To Rossw and Zatek. Thanks for the work in the front. I was holding on for dear life the 1st 20km and did not do my part in front. On M1 I was able to help a few seconds. I think that girl had a WC number. Hell, she motivated me to keep up with bunch. I rode wih her till the lion park where I was left by the bunch. Die gedeelte deur Steyn City was nie lekker. My bene wou net nie meer nie. Just before steyn city I actually thought I am going to do a 2:45. In the end did a 2:50.

Venue great and will improve over time. But trafic!!!!!!! Saw a couple of people parking at the Diepsloot turnoff. On my way back home saw somebody lying on the tar road at Diepsloot. Hope he/she is ok.

No worries. Sometimes all we can do is hang on for dear life. I started like that. You get into a faster batch then POW! You don't know what hit you. It'll come over time, don't stress.

I was ignorant enough to think the VD ballies will start a bit more sedate. Big mistake. I was staring at the wheel in front of me when, boom, the gap opened. It appears these manne are even more high strung than the laaities. Lesson learnt.

Seeding C....started with 3 mates in Q. Upset stomach....vomiting twice on the side of JoSlovo....wanted to quit...but trying to explain that to all! So gathered all and saying all mental tricks to get me to the finish line in 3:48...1 hour slower than last year, but very proud to finish in that state. New route and venue..not sure.
