DJpak Posted April 18, 2014 Share Hello~ I would like to ask u something about tax I ordered two socks, one cap and two water bottle from Rapha in UK And I paid them for $118.5 which can be approximately R1300 And I got a tax invoice from DHL they got it from the airport They say I have to pay R837.54 for tax. Is this right? My items value is only around R1300And they charge me over 50% tax. Ps. Late year I ordered approximately R4400value items from chainreactions. And I paid tax R740 (?) What should I do? Recently SA gave me lots of **** experiences.. so sad

Apart from anything else, my first thought is why on earth did this guy pay so much for that?My second thought was if he's prepared to pay that for some socks and crap, then he's clearly got more money than sense, so why's he complaining? Edit: Do you know how many socks water bottles and caps I could sell you for R1300 (plus the extra R800odd)? FFS, you get water bottles and socks for free with just about every race entry... shaper Posted April 18, 2014 Share Yep, duty is about 40% plus VAT plus handling charge, it has been discussed many times on here with regard to import duties on clothing, just do a search. Also you can check here to get an idea https://www.dutycalculator.com/ Unfortunately you should have put that into your calculations before buying mrbaker

KidCharlemagne Posted April 18, 2014 Share Slightly odd that you would purchase such silly little items abroad. In fact, if you stand on any street corner long enough someone will eventually hand you some socks, water bottle and a cap for free.
Trackie Posted April 18, 2014 Share Thank you for the advices.I m really sorry for u guys..How can u survive in this country??? I love being in Cape Twon but.. I dont understand lots of things hahahaha Why are you sorry for us? You're the clever clogs who bought the stuff and got poked by the taxman. And I have no idea where Cape Twon (sic) is, obviously there are no caps, water bottles nor tax there, or so it appears. mrbaker

kosmonooit Posted April 18, 2014 Share DHL also charge s customs clearing fee, which you don't pay so much if it comes via the parcel post. CRC really messing with our lives by sending DHL without telling you, the last time it happened to me I told them to send it back, haven't been back to CRC since then.
