Riding passed waterfall estate on my way up to the kyalami gates I got passed by a group of maybe 20 cyclelab riders,on reaching the 1st robot all the leaders went straight through taking the whole group with them.I asked (made a statement) one of the last guys 'you guys are going straight through a red robot'!? I got a blank stare back.

Cannot believe how blatant this is!

With all the effort going on for cyclists rights and to be noticed and respected on the roads its frustrating seeing this done out in the open with no care and in club kit! Senior members of the club should be addressing this!

Sorry to those sick of hearing the same thing but had to say something.

Hello Tayyib.

In fact Cyclelab do not ride that route.

Is it possible they were just some guys with fake (parallel import - grey) Cyclelab shirts?

Looking at your post at 4am on the 26th i.e. i'm guessing your sighting was on the 25th?

Its highly unlikely you see a group of official Cyclelab that large on a Friday morning/afternoon.

The larger groups can be found on a Saturday at the cradle.

I am not giving you an official response from Cyclelab on this, as I am only a club member.

If this has caused you any inconvenience or discomfort , I do apologise but I have seen photographs of lesser "crimes" on these posts.

This could help us keep a tighter discipline in future - but still doubt it was The Club

Hello Fabs

Indeed it may be a group of guys with fake jerseys. However...

The jerseys in question if I remember correctly were white and blue, they had the Toyota and cycle lab logo's (names) on the jerseys.

Not sure how that is the time you have of my original posting as the incident happened at about 08:45am on Saturday morning.

Probably about 15 of the guys had the cycle lab jerseys on. And there was 1 guy on a mtb with them if that makes the group more distinguishable.

Main reason I posted in the first place as it is not the first time iv heard of people riding under the clubs name commit the above mentioned offense...Its a problem when im sitting at the traffic light while they go through it and I can see the frustration in the drivers body language and faces next to me, That becomes a problem for other riders later as those drivers who have watched cyclists disobey rules will be less willing to give us 1.5 metres passing space or more patient with us etc. As mentioned in previous posts it just creates a more dangerous riding environment for all of us.

hope I haven't offended you and that you and your fellow members can solve any problems you may have within this topic and avoid things like this in future if it is in question your club members I witnessed.

Hello Tayyib , just to answer your question ...

On the first page of this thread, the heading reads .....

with all respect, if you wrote this at 04:05 am on the 26th April,

which is very early on Saturday morning,

you predicted the future by a few hours?

This cannot be.

The route is way off from the clubs rides route, and the time does not correspond..

I appreciate this thread for public awareness, but I believe you have the wrong group of cyclists.

The above description of riding that you witnessed, is definitely not in the club rules.

I cross over red lights...........why...........because 100m past the red light the two lanes might become one and the driver behind me might not be watching his lane as he is checking his side mirror for a gap to merge into the other lane.

Think about it. The intersection is the most dangerous section for a cyclist. Now we are stationary and the light turns green. We slowly start moving and whilst doing so we might be a bit unstable as well trying to cleat in and trying to go around all the rubbish in the intersection and whilst all this is going on other cars are trying to pass you as well.

I will never just jump a red light but I will slow down and cross it when safe because then I am less of a obstruction further down the road to the cars that stopped behind me.

Bud, there's ALREADY chaos.

Have you EVER rolled over a red traffic light, even once? If not, you may cast the first stone. Too many sanctimonious hypocrites that say one thing on the hub, and do another away from their keyboards. We've ALL used our own initiative at some point. Many admit to it, others are liars. The fact is some archaic traffic laws were designed for vehicles, not cycles.

Then we are ALL fools.

Be honest and tell us if you obey all traffic rules (on your bike as well as in your car). By that I mean you stop dead at all stop streets, don't exceed the speed limit once, don't drive with your fog lights on (I hate it when people do this) etc etc etc.

The car I just sold had some electrical fault, and the fog lights were permanently on.

It looks like a zealous club member's lame attempt to absolve his fellow club members of responsibility.

Was in car at 4:30 this morning. Saw 9 other cars and 3 cyclists.

2 cars had no lights.

3 cars skipped red lights (1 with no lights)

Bicycles had lights front and rear

No one was harmed so I guess it was a good morning.

Have a good day

has to be fake, from China, cause it was not the club....... Could have been club members, but not the club...... Maybe ex members but not the club...... Why? Cause the club does not ride that route.....

Reminds me of something I was taught in school, you misbehave in school uniform, it is not you seen to being naughty but the school

I get damn close to this. It's my daily mission, This includes using handsignals on the bicycle. so motorists know my intention when i am on the road.

It is this typical mentality that leads to people breaking the law. "He did it ONCE so he cannot have an opinion on it and I can now do it too". Grow up, thats not how life works.

There is more than one (the legality of it vs the moral degradation of society) issue at play here. Cyclist rolling over red light early in the morning when no cars are around is illegal but impact is low.

Having 30 club riders all with that "I am in the Tour de France" attitude speeding through a busy intersection trying to beat a Strava segment, at 11am when there are lots of cars around, has a slightly bigger impact of the perception of our sport by motorists, more lives are in danger etc.

It is kind of like comparing a Taxi running every red light to a young lady who has to drive home alone at midnight through dodgy areas rolling over a red light.

Both are illegal, but the one is "understandable" whereas the other is inexcusable!

Of course he's entitled to an opinion, he 's just not entitled to point fingers :D
