creepers - how many bikes you insuring?

2 Bikes, Racing Wheels, Garmin, Glasses, Helmet and 2 pairs of Shoes. Unfortunately top end bikes and kit are not cheap. :(

But the 2 bikes are R583pm for a replacement value of R158,000.00 at 4% and 5% of replacement value respectively, Which is fantastic if you ask me.

The real expense is in the Kit and Racing Wheels all at 6%.

Which company was that, was it in the last yr or 2?

This forced entry thing seems to be all over, not just bike cover but it never occurred to me they wouldn't pay out in those circumstances if you were home at the time. Relaxing at home with a house door to the garden open is normal , as in Sa is it normal for some crazy burglar jumping the razor wire and robbing you and then running away.

I think it's reasonable to expect cover for these incidents whilst at home, if you can't feel safe with your stuff at home whilst you are there and within your homes perimeter walls then where else?

About a year ago or just over. It was Auto & General but I am in no way recommending them (had major issues with them in the past and only monumental inertia and laziness has stopped us moving elsewhere).

Try cycle-specific insurance from Garrun Group - they paid out without hassle when my Zula was stolen & have always been prompt in responding to queries etc.

All risks, in insurance terms isn't 'all risks' as the rest of the human population understand it. Neat little grey area that assessors use as a loophole.

Colleague had a similar issue with his insurers some time back over camera gear stolen from his bakkie, despite the fact that it was concealed behind the seat under a false type of flooring. His claim was turned down on the basis that his equipment wasn't in a locked boot.

That is stupid as a bakkie does not have a boot!

I haven't had a bicycle claim but when my previously very good broker turned down a home break in claim for 2 laptops and a camera where there was forced entry but the items were not specified (they had advised that they needn't be) I did a bit of investigation. Turned out that it seemed that the broker now worked exclusively with Hollard and, to put it kindly, was a lot more rigorous about trying to exclude claims.

The lesson; get a good independent broker, preferably one who knows you and cycling.

carpet this is horrible and i hope you come right with these people. The sad reality is that most insurance companies nowadays have these dragonian provisions due to the level of fraud, which at the end of the if not kept at bay will increase our premuims. So i suspect cyclesure is within their right to turn down this claim from a legal perspective.

What gives me discomfort is that, from a customer service pow, they should assess the claim on its merits and be happy to apply brains rather than policy provisions. If a longstanding client who has not claimed for petty and and opportunistically surely they should be able to know its a honest situation, the provisions should be there to apply when they have a strong and valid suspision of a fraudulent or opportunistic claim.

Carpet the blokes in the claims department get paid to apply rules, not brains, i think you must try and get hold of somebody senior and apeal to them on this.

I will follow this cos i am also with cyclesure, claimed once and was happy with the service but if they are going to treat every client as a number and apply provisions mindlessly i will have to relook at my insurance

thats all

Sterkte Mattie

ditto

and if any insurance company that was cyclist specific and that was worthy of my money would be watching cycling specific forums like this and be making a statement as a matter of urgency here. The good news is that because they seem to have a poor internet presence, in a few days when you search for cyclesure - this thread will come out on top

@Pieter1

That is absolute crap!! What is the point of having insurance then??

What your'e telling me then is - if I'm involved in two or more accidents (which are all NOT my fault...) my insurance will prefer not to insure me?? If it was my own fault/ stupidity I can still stomach it but now I must suffer for other phuckers stupidity????

This reeks of fraud!! Must I now go and persue the offenders? Why insure then?

How can one then ensure that your own possessions are safe from accidents (which ARE going to happen!!)? Stay indoors for the rest of one's life??

Your'e making me very worried with that statement!

Yip, time for me to relook, I am grateful for this thread, I think most of us never actually look at the fine print.
