I do not think I have any rational thought processes when it comes to motorcycles and recently KTM or Ducati. The children's inheritance is dwindling!!!!

I rather impulsively just splashed out on this gorgeous (to me, anyway) KTM 690 Enduro R 2018 model with the rally kit and  extra under seat fuel tank. 123lbs lighter than my KLR 650 and 67% more HP. I have done one test ride to bring her to Hoekwil to show the Missus. Will pick her up on Tuesday after having my preferred tyres fitted. I do look forward to getting her dirty😁

The pic is of the bike but not a pic of mine.

Baie gevaarlik!!

Congrats @Spokey she will give your a massive smile each time you go for a ride. What a beautiful machine.

Andrew(and others who may be interested), I've been doing a bit of research with regard to Planning and recording trips. Came up with Calimoto which is highly regarded. Comes with both desktop and mobile versions which can synch, natch. Can also export gpx files and record a trip. Got some extra features like planning a random route for you from your location and need suggestions. You set the distance and it plans a route. If you don't like it you tell it to do another. Check it out.

After looking at Calimoto in a bit more detail I've discovered a couple of details:

1: It doesn't do Gravel roads - or at least I can't seem to find them.

2: It has a nifty feature of finding rides in your area that others have logged and saved so you can do the same ride or use it as a base for your own.

Personally, I think the ability to record my ride will be the most useful feature although I don't know what it will do once I hit a gravel road. Maybe try it this weekend.

If you love looking at stats over time, like me, I recommend getting the app called Fuelio:
https://www.fuel.io/

Not only is it useful to track your fuel-ups, but you can also track your maintenance/upgrade costs to your bike. You can even create a Seller's Report/Custom Report, how cool is that?

You can also backup your data to Google Drive.

Best of all, it is completely free. Kudos to the developers making this awesome app!

Brought the Little Beast home today, shod with her new rubber. Had to try her out on the forest roads up behind Hoekwil. Very skittish until I realised the tyre pressures were way too high. Will get out tomorrow again running around 1.6 to 1.8 bar and see how she goes. Running a D606 rear and MT21 front. I run the ABS off but may invest in the KTM Dongle that keeps the front on and rear off despite the setting on the dash. This machine is either On or Off. There are various power modes via a swith under the seat, will check what is set tomorrow. I think I will set the suspension to the factory recommended settings and take it from there. Anyways……….puts a smile on ones face she does!E1D9BFB6-C698-4E08-803F-88842E1A4E60.jpeg.41e9a43671510e532aff398cefe713bd.jpegCB89EDC8-F0AD-44E3-8A3B-6F4F28BB81E6.jpeg.937f83564f4396f060ce22f2023a4531.jpeg

Looking good!

Do you know who makes the rally tower and screen on your bike? I ask because it looks very much like the one used on the 2014-18 KTM & Husky 450 Rally Replica's, but with a few distinct differences.

My Husky runs the Nomad ADV kit which used the OEM KTM Rally part, which is good news should I need to replace, however, I prefer the angle of the screen on your bike (steeper), looks more like the 2019+ KTM's.

Speaking of which, I'd love to do a Husky 701 with the newer Omega Rally kit, but sadly that's a little too rich for my blood

Anyway, great bike you have there and many happy miles!

Thanks Patches, she is indeed a little beast, I will try and find out out who did the Rally screen, it is very lekker. The bike is so much more than my KLR which is a bucket load less HP but herself is a bucket load less than my 1190, which I love. Different riding styles indeed.  Will keep the KLR to ride with my son and/or peeps who visit! I am a 58 year old  “old toppie” and lucky to have a wife who tells me “ ride bikes now while you can, collect the old ones when you cannot ride anymore” The 1190 is most certainly a keeper too. I absolutely love that machine!

Hahaha, that is lucky! I've been telling my wife I'll sell one of my Huskies for over 2yrs. For the most part she doesn't mind as it's my garage space that it chews up. The only time it comes up is when I complain that I don't have enough fun money for some silly extravagant purchase, then she'll remind me that I have a dirt bike gathering dust in the garage that I promised to sell 😅

Back to your 690 though, and your earlier mention of tyre pressure, are you considering putting a tubliss setup on it in stead of the rim locks (which I assume it has)?

Although a pain to mount, I'm a huge fan of the tubliss system and you can run some really low tyre pressures (for dunes etc.). Better yet is if you have a 12V DC outlet on the dash to hookup one of those pocket compressors to, allowing you to fluctuate between 8 and 20 *Psi with relative ease.

On my 450 with rally kit I run roughly the following pressures (when I remember to check and change, haha

image.png.feabd4f54031f6aed0a9c9fce6ccb987.png

* forgive my use of imperial units. I used to work in Bar on my MTB, but with dirt bike tyres and the low pressures I find Psi a little easier.

This is good gen, thanks. Yes it has a 12v outlet and I have a small compressor. Thing is ……..I get lazy with all that. The tar riding to get into the Klein Karoo is about 30 kms max so I just head out with low pressures anyway. I don’t mind if the handling is a bit wobbly on the tar! I like your tyre choice there……I must try them. I ended up with a Motoz Adventure GPS on the rear of my 1190. It has been pretty good  overall but crap on wet tar if in full power mode. Spins up too easily if accelerating even at high speed. Rain mode is choice in those conditions!
