I know a company that makes carbon brushes here in Gauteng just in case they tell you NLA....

Morgan Advanced Materials.  And with a sample, and an old-school Hardware shop like Krugersdorp Glass who allows you to scratch around I bet you would find a set off a drill or an angle-grinder that would work.  All the tricks you learn when restoring obscure British bikes!

Thanks

I found a co. in CT that can make the brushes, and they noted they could get it done in under 24hrs.

Sent the details to the mechanic who clearly used them as he noted he is expecting them to let him know today that he can collect the brushes.

Back in the days when I was at Yamaha KTM stood for Keep Throwing Money.....

Or Kick Till Monday.

You decide 🙂

Still remember ole Butch Hirsh’s KTM dealership at the top of Commisioner street. Then it was probably the sole KTM dealer in Africa in them days. Never actually went in the shop cos we’d all go down to the shops on Main Street and check out the new boneys.

don’t think I’d go down that way now though.

There used to great bike shops in the South of Jhb - I remember going to Russel Campbell Kawasaki a few times and also many times to Bike Hospital.  In the early 90's I had an RD350LC which needed parts and I got a bunch from Bike Hospital - for a steal too because Hey, who even wanted an old 350LC when you could have a Thunderace or a Thundercat.  I think I paid R100 for a standard exhaust pipe.  Would probably be worth R5000 now

Although, when I was riding my KTM, my buddy had a brand new Kawasaki KLX450 which had an electric start but the battery never seemed to have enough oomph to start it, so he was always having to kickstart it... So I photoshopped a photo of the bike and instead of 'Kawasaki' it said 'Kickasaki' on the tank... 😄

There is a 0.45% chance of me getting my bike today still :)

OK, ZERO PERCENT.

The Brushes will only be ready from 15:00 today, and needs to be collected.

Dude says he will work on the bike the weekend for collection (Wait for it) Monday morning.

My response = thanks, let me know when you are done on the weekend and I will come over to collect.

Butch started with a Husky agency and he already knew how to charge like a wounded buffalo. He ramped it up a notch with KTM.  Snag was that back in the day (IMHO) the KTM 300 and 520 were best enduro and light adventure bikes respectively. The latest iterations are still pretty good in those segments 🙉.

%$#%^ that.

It takes a lot for me to strip my moer ... my moer is properly stripped.

Bike has been there for 47 days.

I do not give a continental that his back is sore and he now has a flu that is he "going to sleep off this morning" and then he is going back to the workshop to "sort out my bike for me".

Going to go down there now to see what the bike looks like, if she is pretty much close to finish as it was just the starter motor brushes that had to be done.

Unfortunately I have meetings later today or I more than likely would have gone and gotten the %#^ bike.

If he does not complete tomorrow I am fetching the #%^$ thing.
