The usual BS

End of Friday he was taking the decomp pin back to be shaved down again as it was now too much.

I tried calling him, he cancelled the call and then sent me message saying he was busy picking up his kids and would be coming back to the workshop to work on the bike.

Sat. morning our club had a meeting, and I swung around at the workshop afterwords.
His wife was there with their son.

Bike is still not done, cam still out. She said he was still struggling with it and I will get the bike on Monday, or rather she would call me Monday RE the bike.

Gave her a look that showed I did not believe her, but did not say much with his son their. No need to run his old man down in front of him.

Monday is day no. 54, it will make a fine "race no." for the bike, but it will more likely be a bike No. 55.

Any recommendations where to get bike no's made in CT / Table View area please :)

So while we wait in anticipation for the KTM news I bought more scrap over the weekend!

When my '82 DT ran out of fuel I suspected that the tank had been lined badly so I had lost about 1L of volume - so I was on the hunt for a new tank.  The '82 tank on the DT175 is different to the tanks on the earlier ones so when I spotted a tank amongst some spares in the background picture of a guy selling an '80 175 I call him.  Yup, the tank was pretty good he said, but he wasn't going to sell it alone I had to buy the rolling chassis is was on.  Fair enough - a lot of the '82 stuff is unique - forks, tank, frame, etc, but I lot is also interchangeable so I figured I would take what I could as backup for my '82 and then either sell or toss the rest in the skip.  When I got there to collect, the tank was pure scrap, and to be fair he was pretty shocked so in the end we did a deal, where I bought the '80 he was originally advertising, another '80 175 with the blown motor and then the '82 rolling chassis.....

The white bike actually runs and to be honest, runs like I remember they ran when I got my first one back in the day - the '82 175 I have just finished just doesn't seem right - even with a brand new engine.

So the plan now is to build one good '80 175 with the parts I have, and then either sell it, or if it runs well then keep it.  Who knows!

Consulted my date to date calendar and it seems I am off.

Today is day 55 (Bike was in the workshop 2025.07.09) and work day no. 39.

So 8 weeks tomorrow. Ironic cos lay 8 on its side and it’s the eternity symbol.

I may have missed the reason, but why did you decide to sell the old Katoom to replace it with this old Katoom?  I thought you just had the other one nicely sorted?

The 950 was my first "dirt bike" experience. With it being the adventure S it also had the taller suspension, so with proper boots on we are talking about tippie toe on the ground.

When doing the sand training course I also realised that if I go play in the bush by myself, picking the bike up a few times can do my back in .... and my back has been giving me issues from years of sports and contact sports. So something lighter, and maybe something more would be the ticket .... it also scratched an itch I have had RE smaller bikes.

So to answer your question, I am either making a mistake, or finding the right kind of bike for me, but I will never know till I try.

AND

If the bike is not for me, I can always shop around for a std. 950 with slightly lower suspension :) to get my 950 itch back on again.

I also have the Harley which takes care of longer road trips, and I do not have much free time to take a few days off for a proper adventure outing (I have my day job, and then my private work to juggle ... not to mention family commitments too) so a smaller bike can be tossed around in the bush out back in Parklands for a quick dirt riding fix during the week or quickly over the weekend.

Got a voice note earlier that the cam was expected yesterday as he thought it was an overnight delivery, now it is meant to have arrived today and he would let me know.
