So why tender for it....why not play the best odds....the examples you mention are far less than jackings where somebody just hands the goods over....if they fought back, who knows how many of them will still be here. why do you keep on throwing your training background in the mix. A far better response for someone with these types of skills and training would be no response at all tbh. Its quite irresponsible posting what could be have been done to prevent this since someone reading this, thinking that they can now go defend themselves, totally out of breath against 3 drugged up criminals with nothing to loose, because they have read your "defend yourself 101" post.

My first post here was in response to a post which commented that "even if he was armed he could have done nothing". I merely suggested that I did not agree with that and went about explaining what I would have done in the situation.

The fact that other people then changed the topic to carrying while riding and using a firearm to defend oneself was not my doing. I was merely stating what I would have down. Obviously not all will agree or approve and that is their stance on it.

In no way am I encouraging a person to carry a fiream when riding. It is what i have to do due to circumstances on where I ride and when i ride. I do not carry all the time. When riding Northerns, Van Gaalens etc I do not carry. These are low risk areas. I actually prefer not to carry when riding but when i have to train on the Spruit at 5am or 6pm I carry due to the risk.

I added my skills training bit to show and justify to others that I am not just another gun owner with a gungho f3cking Rambo attitude. I can handle a weapon. That definitely makes a difference when dealing with a situation.

I have absolutely no issue with what Malcolm did. I am glad he was not hurt during the incident. The footage is a brilliant way of letting others know how these robberies go down. I am sure that by seeing that footage everyone here will have a heightened sense of awareness when riding whether alone or in groups. The best thing Malcolm did was post this so we can see and learn from it.

We cannot live in a bubble and hope we won't be a victim of crime. we need to be aware of our surroundings and have a game plan when it goes down. What you do is up to you and only you will know what to do when the situation arises.

So i disagree that my posts will now have someone thinking they can go and deal with this by reading this.

If I may ask, what do you mean by this or what are you referring to ?

I explained the requirements of self defense and related it to the scenario, thus justifying the use of deadly force, only to have a post refering to limited knowledge of the law posted later. We have many armchair lawyers here.

It might have come from that place....I am just saying that posting something about what could be done in that situation no matter the intent is dangerous information...surely you can appreciate that

You don't know that...maybe someone did. I am saying, why even open this up as a possibility

I think that Malcolm did the right thing.

Some people on the forum get all big about packing a fire-arm, BUT what would you do if you got attacked and had the opportunity to draw the firearm, do you have it in you to take another person's life, are you sure about that. Remember that you are going to have to live with yourself and that fact for the rest of your life.

I've grown up with firearms, and have been trained in the combat use of them, basically a firearm was part of my arm, an extension of me. Then one day I was faced with that situation, and the choice was there. I hadn't prepared myself for the fact that I would now possibly be taking a person's life, and I couldn't do it. Luckily I was able to remove myself from the situation with no damage to myself, or loss. BUT what if I couldn't, and I was shot and my firearm was taken from me. That means another firearm in the hands if the criminals, and another crime statistic/fatality.

SO BE BLOODY SURE THAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO USE THAT FIREARM THAT YOU ARE SO WINDGAT ABOUT. (Naturally, I'm not talking to the people like Roneblack, for whom I have the utmost respect IF you have been in that situation, and come out the other side)

This is the first time I've spoken about that, and the last time, and I'm not going to be drawn into any discussions.

BTW, I still have all my firearms, and use them often, and am def not in the disarm all citizenry camp!

I sure as hell hope you did not pay for that training ! If you did please go and get your money back .

Doesn't frikkin help that the people that are supposed to be protecting us are arming the criminals:

Shebeen did you give your brain cell to somebody else for the day or are you just trying to say something . A good friend of mine was shot dead by these bastards and then while his wife watched they filled the bath tub with hot water (WDF boils a kettle to fill a tub ) and drowned her 11 year old son in it . So please why don't you step out of your little bubble .

clearly this is an emotional topic for you, no point trying to find middle ground on our viewpoints.

I'm ok in my 'bubble', if I'm being naive about it then let me be.

Cool, thanks.

There are many here who are quick to judge, without knowing what the posters background is. But hey this is the HUB and anything goes. One does not post a CV upfront when posting.

for sure, but clearly you could understand that for 99.5% of mtbers out there the submission taken by Malcolm was the correct action. Surely the cowboys with a gun licence and no training piss you off more than most.

I just sigh when people see the self defence requirements as a grey area. It is actually cut and dried. In this instance use of deadly force would be justified on the armed attacker. I bet someone will differ, and that is why they don't carry.

I think you'll battle to get everyone to agree on that.

Enjoy the shoot. The AK47 is a remarkable weapon and shoots pretty nicely. Just remenber one day on the range firing a few rounds don't make you competent to deal with a situation.

and remember firearms and alchohol do not go well together.

they pretty strict on that.

The day is going to come when an armed cyclists gun goes off by accident and he will be the victim of his own ways. The reason these thieves have guns is bacause they steal them. So if we have less guns then there are less to steal.

Why do think America is so bad? They all think they have the right to own 20 firearms. And then... low and behold some lunatic gets a hold of one of them and goes mad.

Didn't the person who invented the AK 47 kill himself because of all the damage that thing has caused? I am 100% against all guns. They do not represent a human society.

Mikhail Kalashnikov died in 2013. Was on the TV and and all. He still designed a LOT of other weapons. O ja, the AK-47 went into service in 1949. So your logic is all wrong.

I sure as hell hope you did not pay for that training ! If you did please go and get your money back .

Agreed!!

I have been in a similar situation a few weeks ago. Fortunately no firearms but the BL|KSEMED me with a m03rse stick. I got away, but am quite shaken. Malcolm did the right thing. A bicycle/car/motorbike in THAT siuation is not worth more than your life.

Carrying while on the bike? I won't, but it's purely because of my "falling" habit. Once again, each onto himself.

Finally, for the anti-firearm group, wake up!! If you don't like me carrying a firearm, keep it to yourself. Don't judge me because of MY freedom of choice.

Until someone close to you is affected. It's called the "only happens to them" syndrome. Maybe go sit with murder detectives one day.........
