A fast and flat finish, today’s stage says bunch sprint in every language. But the race has a shortage of sprinters and sprint trains. Could Chris Froome go for a third stage win in a row? Just joking.

Also saw that....it is allowed?

No way he would use that unless it's been medically cleared.

A rare sight though to see a top rider using an inhaler.

should you be riding if you've got some sort of condition? if you do should be at own risk, as any sort of aid would be performance enhancing. where's the evidence to say that you're at a disadvantage to the next rider? it might even take you past normal levels as speculated in the last few threads. IMO there should be no aids, medical or not, all taboo

So then by that logic, Quintana shouldn't have been allowed to take anti-biotic s during the Giro?

Thank you!!!!!

If you need medication to compete against the person next to you should rather go and have a chat with your parents than the team doc. Play the cards you are dealt....isn't that what competing is about

everyone has some sort of condition......

Have a cold?

oh well can't ride because you're taking viral guard and maybe a Corenza ParaC

Have the flu, oh heck bye bye funrides.

fact of the matter is excersice induced asthma is very common among athletes not for reasons of needing an excuse to take some sort of stimulant (most are natural and not on the banned list btw). Its a simple physiological byproduct of high levels of stress that athletes put their bodies through.

couch potatoes typically don't suffer from EIA....

But still requires a TUE

Yip I needed a doctors scrip for a ventolin during a race. Hence Froome must have one as well. The fact that its not plastered over cycling publications blogspot should be indicative that its a non issue except with blogger pro's who need something to up their bog traffic

Sure but where do you draw the line...a cold, asthma, sad pandas that need testosterone..?? They are all valid conditions but doesn't it inherently mean you are not as good as the guy next to you that doesn't need it since he doesnt need a pump / injection to cope with the stresses?

Im def not doubting the fact that EIA is common or not among athletes / couch potatoes.. please don't get me wrong. comment on this thread merley relates to something that was highlighted (Froome's pump which I totally missed on the tele).

If you have a cold you can make a personal decision to take part in an event or not.. same goes for flu or whatever temporary or permanent condition you have. If you have a prosthetic leg or arm it is your decision to take part in an able bodied category / event etc etc..

If you however gain an advantage over your competitor, this in the form of medication / stimulants / lighter or modified prosthetics then the competition is no longer fair .

Intense endurance events is a measure of man / athletes ability versus that of his competitor.. not man + his chemist in his trailer

The riders have finally reached the top of a long gradual climb to Recharginges and are at an altitude of over 1000m. They stay high for the next 40km before the descent and rolling roads to the Col de la Mure after 150km. Following the steep descent to the Rhone valley, the flat final 40km begin.

That is when the sprinters' teams will begin their chase in earnest.

Is this in general or ref to asthma. . Cause I have a son with asthma and when he needs his inhaler it's not to compete against others but to actually be able to breath.

The three breakaway riders are toiling under the sun, with temperatures above 30C, and the hilly roads making it had going. The riders covered 35.7km/h in the second hour of racing.
