Insurance paid out on my stolen bike and planning on getting a spez epic comp. How good is the brain shock, ive never ridden one off road.

Also if anyone is as tall as me 1,68m what size is your bike. Went for sizing and they said im med. 2 Lbs's said the same. Just wanna know from people my height. (Yes, I know it is not about height solely)

Absolutely brilliant. Had my Epic now for 2 months, I cant ever imagine life without it. It really makes you faster, no lies. Depending on your mood you can adjust the brain fade in seconds. Love it.

The only way I can measure one ride from the next is through Strava.

Put my Epic through its paces on Sunday on the Spruit and ended with 38 trophies, and about 80% of them were PBs.

I would suggest that you change to 2.0 tyres though. They may be fast but just don't feel confident on them.

at 1.68m you will fit on a Small. A medium is way too big for you. The top tube is 59.cm which will require you to run a ridiculously short stem of around 40mm or something.

Don't own a Spaz but I know I will never buy one with the "Brain" platform valve. For me its either too harsh or too slow and its a maintenance nightmare.

Woderful bikes just make sure you have the money around for when services come around on the brain shock

I own one. The words fast, hard and bone jarring come to mind. Definitely not the plushest setup out there. Don't know what you are looking at though, but the tune on the Stumpjumper FSR is a lot softer and not XC at all. Take one for a spin and also try another suspension platform like Maestro or DW-link. I did find the back end of the bike much stiffer with the BMC APS system(similar to maestro and dw link).

Definitely a medium for you....the height range for medium is 1.65m - 1.78m. Search Spec site for the sizing chart and you'll confirm. The brain is a great shock. I find it works best when fully locked and then it only releases when it hits a bump....like a hardtail until you hit a bump. You won't go wrong with the epic, but you will cry a little when shock service time comes :(

Epic - climbs like a demon but you have to work on technical descents (it all depends on your technical proficiency). I'd look at that sizing, I'm the same height but ride a small but this is dependent on your build and not height only as a factor.

I have graduated away from the spez bikes. I enjoyed my Sworks epic but always found it harsh, and a little nervous on the downs. The rear end on initial impact was always harsh, but become more fluid if the brain stayed open. ( on medium)

I went to the cannondale scalpel, I really enjoyed it, not as nervous but the rear end tended to bog a little and required a lot of time to get it right. ( Its was stolen), ( on large)

I then picked up a turner czar, and I found my bike, vicious on the downs, it gives too much confidence and my speed exceeds my skill, the ups are good the DW-link rear end works very well, no bob but highly reactive. It is 200g heavier, but build quality is better than both of the big brand bikes and there are a number of other features that make it a great long term solution. ( on large)

I am 1.8m tall.
