10 speed vs 11speed

Be that as it may, Shimano rules the industry, and what they do goes whether we as consumers like it or not. They probably sell 50 groupsets for every 1 that Campy and Sram move out the door.

It's very simple ~ when Shimano sneezes, the cycling industry gets a cold. And right now their sneeze is blowing out 11 speed.

Be that as it may, every campy user smiles every time they shift.

due to them sneezing and blowing their 11speed out from behind is making the shimano users switch so more difficulty.

if they went like campy did. the transition to 11campy from 10 would be pain free . no new wheels, hubs and dishing required. just buy the goods and ride. like plug and play

I was speaking to the guys at my lbs... They told me that shimano is phasing out ten speed quite aggressively, within the next 6 months...

If you have ultegra, and need a new derailer, they will only supply tiagra. Their reasoning is, it's ten speed, so will work. If you want ultegra, it will only be 11 speed replacement parts.

It does, in many business ways, make a lot of sense. To carry spares and stock for group sets a few years old now is plain silly. So i guess you may as well go 11 speed. Not for any performance gain, but for the fact that in future, you'll probably be smiling.

Resale will be higher too, should you ever sell...

I find that hard to believe!

I don't. Try finding a suspension fork with a 1 1/8" straight steerer and you'll understand.

I doubt it's the manufacturers that are phasing out, most likely just the local distributor.

Same argument as with 26 v 29 shops don't stock it cause its not the "in" thing and it's easier to tell customers that it's not available than to explain why there is no stock

not sure there's a problem!!!

Don't know Shamano, but certainly any Campag 11spd hub takes 10 speeds and with a bit of fiddling, a 10 spd hub will take 11.

I suspect Sham will be the same.

10 speed freewheel to 11 speed mod

engineering shop wanted to charge me R800 plus labour to cut 1mm off a freewheel so that an 11 speed cassette could fit

Curse you Zipp (lol) replacing the freewheel was almost R3000 ... shocked face ... One of my buddies did it for R350 , took a whole 10 seconds

I'll stick to 10 speed for the moment. No gain from 11 speed, more sensitive to adjustments, dirt etc. I've found the high and low ratios important and I've always had enough gears in between (8, 9 and 10 speed). As for future availability 10 speed will be around for a long time. I still source 8 speed road components without a hassle.

May be a case for 1 X 11 MTB though.

bingo!
