So, I have always held out on doing the tubeless thing, telling myself its not worth it. I never actually had any major problems so I thought the +-R1500 odd is just too much to spend.

Well this weekend changed my mind... Planned a nice 45/50km ride and in the first 12km's had 3 flats. I was gatvol and turned back.

Probably doing the conversion this week.

Where do you get the R1500 from?

Just remember tjoepless is not faultless.

Could be...

2 x TR or UST tyres

2 x tubeless valves

1 x roll of tape

1 x bottle of stan's

helped a mate to do a duct tape conversion a while back

valves = R 135

Duct tape = R 45

Sealant= R 120

Beer= R 60

he had TR tires so no spending R800+ on new tires.

That is the biggest expense. If you dont have TR as a minimum it wont work.

Lekkers claude....just remember that tubeless doesn't mean your are immune to puncture...thorns and snakebites wont puncture you anymore

Sharp rocks, stones and glass are still the enemy, get a tubeless puncture kit(snot plugs and tool) form your lbs whilst they busy converting your wheels.

The snotplugs will seal 99.99% of punctures that you will now get, which is in the event of your riding of a glass bottle or something.

To be honest with you, I dont bother with tubes anymore for the following reasons

1.If I cut the tyre so badly that a plug won't work, its normally end of the line for my ride and tyre...a tube will just pop through the hole

2.Its very very very messy story to fit a tube in a tyre where there was sealant before, to the point where its not worth the admin

I will phone the wife to fetch me from wherever...hopefully close to a bar or something.

The above obviously doesnt apply to a stage race, where finishing the ride is the most important thing...there I will still carry a tube and gator. But for my normal training rides...ag nee wat.
