As much as they offend masculinity, bib shorts are by far the best. The fact that they extend over your shoulders means less shifting on the seat which means less pain at the end of the day.

Stay away from cheap brands. Cheap brands result in bad padding that loses shape and shifts. Good brands keep shape and maintain comfort.

I have found Ftech to be great quality at good value.

I say spend as much as you possibly can. It is one area you don't want to skimp on, especially on long rides.

Assos if you are rolling in cash (CWC have a special on now - S7 are awesome). Or try

Specialized bibs, good quality but more affordable.

I have used Specialized and Craft bibs (two types) - the Specialized ones were better. Buy the best ones you can afford and always check for FIT (thigh, butt and torso)...your @rse will thank you.

Got some FOX bibs recently.

The chamois looks and feel a lot like those in the Assos UNO Bib.

(The shop says it's the same . . I don't know)

(Not sure if Assos still make the UNO)

Very comfy and it cost about R700 compared to R10000000000 for a Assos.

Not sure if it will last as good as an Assos. The Lycra quality is not as good.

Assos S7 T'Equippe. Good quality and will last you a long time if you look after it. I still have Assos Shorts from 2008 and they are still ok. It is an investment. And don't forget the chamois cream. No need for Assos, Mark II will be fine.
